Our Opportunity:

Chewy is seeking a Software Engineer III (AI/ML) in one of our hub locations for our customer service technology team. This is a high-profile position that will have exposure across the entire business, influencing the vision and implementation of architecture, design and features for an AI platform.  Chewy’s mission is to empower pet parents to make smarter decisions about products for their pets.  The role will allow you to act as an Individual Contributor, part of a team of strong engineers building functionality to improve Chewy’s customer servicing capabilities using AI and ML.

What You’ll Do:

  • You will participate in working with all the top engineers at Chewy to evolve the architecture direction of all development at Chewy
  • You will be responsible for design, development, integrating, training, delivery, fine-tuning and support of large-scale AI/LLM models
  • You will be the engineering lead. You will work with the team and other partner teams to define our technical roadmap
  • You will drive innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development
  • Coach and mentor engineers on the team

What You’ll Need:

  • 10 years of experience in Software Development as a software engineer
  • 3+ years of building and designing ML application platforms at scale
  • 3+ years of back-end Java experience
  • 3+ years of experience with NLP
  • 1+ years of experience with Generative AI
  • Strong knowledge of Python
  • Knowledge of cloud & orchestration technologies (AWS Services, Terraform, Jenkins, etc)
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices for the full software development lifecycle including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Strong communication skills as well as experience in mentoring and educating your peers

Bonus (if applicable):

  • Master’s or PhD in Machine Learning
  • Experience in e-commerce and/or customer service technology
  • Experience deploying large scale neural networks in a production environment
