Chewy is seeking a Software Engineer to join an established technology team in Boston, MA, Minneapolis, MN, Bellevue, WA or Plantation, FL. At Chewy, it is our mission to be the most trusted and convenient destination for pet parents (and partners) everywhere. The prospective candidate will help develop impactful software capabilities to improve or build new functionality needed to grow Chewy.  In this role, the ideal candidate will engage in development, testing, and make contributions to the growth and development of one of Chewy’s fastest growing areas. They will have the opportunity to be part of a high performing engineering team where we value broad-based technical skills.  This individual will partner with both technical and business teams on multiple initiatives and collaborate to deliver new features and enhancements.

What You’ll Do:

  • Actively participate in the definition, design, development, testing and implementation of software functionality using an agile methodology
  • Build and modify scalable distributed software systems.
  • Partner with collaborators and technology teams on how best to implement desired features and enhancements
  • Ensure that technical solutions follow standard processes, are reliable, are easily maintainable and are scalable under sustained load
  • Participate in design and code reviews
  • Collaborate to identify, isolate, and resolve malfunctions related to software
  • Build and evolve system-related documentation
  • Participate in on-call rotations and strive for operational excellence

What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or similar; or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years consistent record in software engineering
  • Previous SEO experience required
  • Experience developing software components and/or services by use of the following technologies:  Java/Kotlin, NextJS, Terraform
  • Hands-on engineer spending a significant percentage of their time writing code and debugging
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices for the full software development process including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing and operations
  • Proficiency in Computer Science fundamentals – object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm-design, problem solving and complexity analysis
  • Experience with crafting, building and deploying features
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities / skills
  • Proven ability to  connect with collaborators
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities at a given time
  • Must be team oriented and have a customer first approach

Bonus (if applicable):

  • Experience with agile methodologies a plus
  • Experience with cloud & orchestration technologies (AWS Services, Terraform, Ansible etc)
  • Experience working in e-commerce
