Senior Category Manager - New Business

Our Opportunity:

Chewy is seeking a dynamic and analytical Senior Category Manager to join a new, growing and fast-paced Chewy Health organization in Boston, MA or Bellevue, WA.. We have very exciting plans to further build our Merchandising teams and businesses. This is a new business development role which has high relevance and impact in the pet insurance space.

In this role, you will own the Profit & Loss for a new category, have strong negotiation skills that will improve business terms, handle high-profile vendor relationships, and champion strategies that accelerate business growth. You will be navigating ambiguity through a structured, outcome-focused approach while leading contending priorities in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will bring experience related to our "think big" operating principle, set visionary goals, and drive operational excellence. There will be an expectation for project management experience to ensure timely delivery of achievements and independently generate strategic solutions. A collaborative demeanour with a history of successfully leading cross-functional initiatives is crucial. Proficiency in SQL for sophisticated data analysis and insight generation is optional but preferred.

What You'll Do:

  • Own and Drive Business Performance: Take full P&L ownership of your category, delivering high double-digit growth in both sales and profit.
  • Develop and Complete Category Strategies: Build and implement data-driven strategies to recruit new customers, drive lifecycle management initiatives for existing customers, and optimize product performance. Leverage insights to identify and act on opportunities, such as closing assortment gaps and/or crafting new innovative offerings and responding to market trends effectively.
  • Champion Strategic Vendor Relationships: Establish, build, and run high-profile external vendor relationships, including full ownership of negotiations to secure improved business terms and long-term value.
  • Deliver Results on Sophisticated Initiatives: Invent on behalf of the customer, while operating at depth to structure and complete solutions for interesting, ambiguous projects. Achieve impactful results by prioritizing and managing competing demands while aligning efforts with organizational goals.
  • Lead Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with teams across product, finance, marketing, and customer service to drive well-rounded planning, seamless execution, and measurable success.
  • Employ Strategic Thinking and Analysis: Utilize SQL and Tableau tools to generate actionable insights, enabling data-backed decision-making and the scaling of impactful initiatives.
  • Ensure Operational Excellence: Use exceptional project management skills to deliver breakthroughs on time, navigate ambiguity with clarity, and maintain focus on structured, outcome-driven results.
  • Think Big and Drive Visionary Goals: Set ambitious objectives that align with the company’s long-term vision, balancing high-level critical thinking with hands-on operational excellence.

This role is ideal for a collaborative, innovative leader who thrives in dynamic environments and excels at driving measurable results.

What You'll Need:

  • MBA, Master’s degree or equivalent experience desired. 
  • 6+ years of  business experience
  • Proven experience with go-to-market, and with focus on execution.
  • Communication skills combined with the ability to influence partners and or vendors. 
  • Exceptional competencies in vendor management/merchandising, sales, marketing, and management.
  • Ability to lead, be flexible, prioritize, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, and ability to demonstrate retail math competency.

Bonus:

  • Business and leadership experience in market-leading organizations; both in large sophisticated organizations and start-up businesses
  • SQL a plus
