Chevron is accepting online applications for the position Managing Editor, located in San Ramon, CA or Houston, TX or Washington, D.C. through February 7th at 11:59 p.m. (Central Standard Time).  

The Managing Editor is responsible for the day-to-day management of Chevron's Content Newsroom. Primary responsibilities include the management of the Newsroom's editorial and publishing calendars, making story assignments and leading a team of brand journalists and editors.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for day-to-day management of the Chevron’s Content Newsroom

  • Manage a team of Digital Brand Journalists and Content Editors and act as the assigning editor, developing story ideas with the Strategists and Manager of Creative Strategy

Sets the global content plan and gains alignment across leadership, and key stakeholders from Corporate Affairs:

  • Leads the Content Newsroom team (content strategists, content creators, video producers, etc.) in the development of the plan

  • Partners with BU/OpCo teams to ensure major moments, events and announcements are properly supported

  • Works across disciplines (corporate channels, paid, social, external affairs, partnership & events, investor relations, etc.) and aligns content calendars

  • Uses and models an agile approach to content development

  • Ensure the Newsroom stays on schedule and meets publishing commitments

  • Partners with the Analytics & Insights team to leverage trendspotting, content insights, key learnings from previous quarters and analytics to inform the overall content strategy

  • Work closely with Legal Substantiation Coordinator to ensure compliance and substantiation across the full scope of the Newsroom output

  • Occasionally contribute in a hands-on capacity including creating own content

  • Address and resolve internal client issues

  • Required Qualifications:

    • 8+ years' experience working in journalism, digital/media/publishing, newsroom environment (from an industry leading publisher Fortune company, agency.)

    • 4-year BA/BS with a strong academic record, specializing in journalism or communications

    • Strong writing skills, attention to detail and good judgment in thoughtfully executing stories

    • Ability to lead and develop a team of writers, developers and editors

    • A portfolio of work that draws on expertise in innovation as well as both internal + external communications, with a demonstrated focus on external communications

    • Experience navigating a Fortune 50 organization and working within strict guidelines.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • An innovative Leader who brings creativity and passion about finding new ways to expand our brand's content

    • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and/or initiate and drive projects to completion with minimal oversight, successfully managing time and multiple competing priorities

    • Previous experience using rigorous data and analysis to determine success of campaign and ideate - how we can improve, and where do we go from here
