This Director-level, technical Workday role is part of the HR Technology team at Schwab and will foster a strategic enablement of the Workday Center of Excellence team that is focused on enhancing the employee experience, improving capabilities and efficiency for the HR business team and well as foster team collaboration and engagement.
This is an advisory role, responsible for helping our HR Business stakeholders establish a strong technical foundation in the Workday platform, and design solutions that drive outcomes. This role will act as a critical partner with HR Stakeholders and Executives, understanding business problems and evangelize Workday capabilities and solutions that can support improvements. This will consist of establishing best practices around Workday implementation, foster HR business awareness of Workday capabilities, tenant management, release practices, technical governance, core data, integrations and operational resiliency. This is a highly consultative role, that guides the strategic implementation of Workday in alignment with HR strategy and HR capability objectives. This role will partner to establish roadmaps, timelines and lead overall plans through to implementation. This role will interact with all levels of the organization, including executive levels, product and technical developers.

This is an individual-contributor role that will focus on the implementation and expansion of Workday capability for the HR Business Unit. The focus will initially be on the foundational HCM components to understand current configuration and short-term, quick wins. Partnerships with HR business teams will be foundational to understand business opportunities and then prepare demos/solutions to improve the Workday implementation, generate efficiency for HR Administration users and increase unitization for employees.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct high-level needs analysis, generate reports, and perform data analysis to aid decision-making
- Solicit requirements for understanding, collaborating with business requestors to ensure understanding prior to development
- Oversee design and feature development, translating the product vision into actionable components
- Ensure all Workday-identified solutions are defined in Jira, supporting BSAs and developers with requirement refinement, and that the release into production meets the intended solution
- Ensure participation and alignment in planning activities, PI Plans and sprint/agile ceremonies
- Mange stakeholder relationships, acting as a change agent for a product-focused culture
- Propose and implement process improvements and drive innovation within current business practices and solutions
- Aggressively seek opportunities for automation across HR Business Processes and Workday solution offerings
- Develop and coach Workday delivery team talent, supporting professional growth and engagement
The ideal candidate will excel in vast Workday knowledge and product experience, consulting and demonstration to understand and solicit needs and how Workday can be enhanced to improve usability, communication, problem-solving and analysis, with a passion for driving change and delivering outstanding user/employee experiences.
- Workday Expertise: This is a director-level position focused on Workday HR solutions for the HR business team at Schwab. Hands-on experience with Workday HCM implementations, with a strong focus on Workday capability, integration architecture and design
- Technical Proficiency: Deep knowledge of Workday configuration and integration methods, security and Workday offerings within the HCM and Innovation Services such as Assistant/Everywhere, GenAI/Illuminate, Talent and offerings as part of platform releases
- Data Governance: Strong understanding of Workday Data Governance, reporting, and data consumption methodologies.
- Security: In-depth knowledge of security best practices for cloud-based applications, including role-based/SSO and data protection measures.
- Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders. This role will be partnering with all levels of the HR organization, as well as technical Workday developers and support resources.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to troubleshoot complex HR Business issues.
- Agile Methodology: Experience working in Agile environments and using project management tools such as Jira.
What you have
Required qualifications:
- 10+ years of Workday Platform experience, including 5+ years in a Workday Architecture and Solutioning role, contributing to the Workday implementation(s) of HR products - HCM, Compensation, Benefits, Payroll, Learning, Recruiting
- Consultative experience and proven approach to solicit business problems and form solutions and roadmaps to address
- Experience with large-scale enterprise Workday Implementations or in support thereof
- A strong understanding of HR business processes
- Experience as a Workday Evangelist with solutions-oriented leadership style, enabling innovation and need for change in how we utilize the platform and enable net-new offerings
- Strong communication and presentation skills - at multiple levels of an organization
- Organized, roadmap and project management experience, with channels of communication on progress by HR business process area (HCM, Benefits, Compensation, Talent, etc)
- Proficiency with project management tools such as Jira
Preferred qualifications:
- WorkdayPro and other Workday certifications
