The WAM Engineering supports Schwab business goals through operational management of WAM Engineering. Our team manages project management, and interfaces with the Office of the CIO for support for workforce, Pro Services oversight, and budget. Our team collaborates across a matrixed organization internally and externally with WAM Engineering and STS, to deliver business value through efficient, disciplined and predictable project execution of effective solutions to business problems and opportunities.

The Technical Project Manager (Mid) will have a number of responsibilities including project management of small internal projects, oversight of professional services engagements, and assisting with various aspects of department financials.
Day to day activities include:
- Project Management
- Technical project management of small WAM Engineering internal projects
- Work with Technology lead and Program Office to define the scope and approach of the project.
- Create project schedule and timeline ensuring aligns to technology team available workload
- Interface with scrum teams, who will be performing the work, to ensure all Agile artifacts are provided
- Candidate will ensure project management standards are adhered to and provide guidance on the tracking of any risks or issues and that they are appropriately surfaced.
- Lead and actively participate in project meetings and discussions to ensure strategic goals of the projects are being met
- Report on the overall health of the project to WAM Engineering leadership
- Frequent milestone review sessions to capture progress and identify blockers
- Professional Services Contract Management
- Act as point for the WAM Engineering Technology teams as they engage with vendors
- Ensure WAM Engineering teams follow proper procedures including budget approval, and leadership justification
- Act as a point person for WAM Engineering for the CPSP team
- Assist in resolving any issues in CPSP process and in resolving invoice issues
- Assist in ensuring that work orders are appropriately ended with staff rolling off timely, or in extending agreements
- Setup and run vendor review meeting with all levels of our vendors and include technology managers
- Assist with creation of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) as needed
- Improve the existing processes internal to WAM Engineering and how they interact with VMO processes. Identify and eliminate non-value add processes.
- Department Financial Management
- Assist WAM Engineering managers in better understanding their budgets
- Oversee discretionary and T&E approval process ensuring all of these types of expenses are properly reviewed
- Assist in forecasting and managing any team expenses related to staff, training, professional services, software licenses, etc ensuring any items are entered in the Budget Request Tracker site
- Work with STS Finance to assist them with updating forecasts
- Assist team managers in answering any budget related decisions
- Other miscellaneous activities
- Assist in supporting Clarity project timesheet application
- Assist in assembling Presentations and Reports across project status, department financials, workforce/staffing information, etc
What you have
To ensure that we fulfill our promise of 'challenging the status quo,' this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.
Required minimum qualifications include:
- Prior IT industry experience preferred
- Experience in Financial Industry (banking, brokerage, asset management, wealth management) required
- 3-5 years technical project management experience with demonstrated ability to drive projects to completion
- Proven ability to drive teams to complete work in aggressive timelines
- Experience in dealing with different levels of an organization from developers up to executives
- Budget management and professional services management a must
- Strong experience with data analytics and decision support including experience with Tableau, Power BI, and Oracle tools.
- Strong PC skills, including proficiency in the Microsoft suite (specifically Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Word, Outlook, Teams, OneNote) JIRA, Confluence, and Project
- Must have strong experience with Clarity, Peoplesoft Financials, Ariba, JIRA, Confluence, and CPSP system.
- Ability to build relationships and interact with many different audiences and levels of management
- Ability to synthesize data and summarize findings into effective presentations
- Ability to quickly analyze issues and present workable solutions that are in the best interest of our business partners
- Ability to articulate views in a clear and concise manner - strong communication skills
- Highly motivated, engaged, self-starter
- Highly organized and able to manage a large number of tasks at once
