We are looking for an experienced, collaborative, and adaptable product designer who is passionate about understanding user needs and pain points to join the Experience Design (XD) team. The XD Team crafts effortless mobile, web and desktop experiences that are grounded in empathy and informed by insights and thoughtful planning. We are a multi-disciplinary group of professionals with expertise in Design, Content Strategy and Research. We collaborate across the enterprise to build exceptional digital experiences for millions of clients. As a Product Designer (individual contributor), you are responsible for:

Native mobile design expertise:

  • Design features for native mobile applications with a deep understanding of iOS Human Interface Guidelines and Android Material Design standards
  • Support team members and partners in mobile design standards and consult on features being proposed by outside groups
  • Stay current with mobile trends, new techniques for design, testing and development, as well as technology shifts in mobile platforms, helping others to do the same

Creative direction expertise:

  • Design effective screen layouts with color, typography, layout, and spacing, with a deep understanding of the visual and interactive properties of the interface
  • Experience in Interaction design, layout, visual hierarchy, color, typography, and icon design principles
  • Contribute to a delightful and consistent visual language that works closely with the design system, with an eye to visual competitive awareness

Service design expertise:

  • Design and optimize end-to-end client experiences
  • Support cross-functional teams to generate insights and co-design solutions that align service design with business goals and technical constraints
  • Deep understanding of service design principles

Product design and execution:

  • Bring products to life through collaboration across the enterprise, designing solutions that delight and satisfy our clients and meet business needs
  • Influence product design efforts from early discovery to final delivery
  • Design interactions across desktop, mobile web and native mobile experiences, using product context
  • Align visual design approach for products, including how aspects like layout, color, spacing and typography impact how the user will interact with the system and how the system should respond
  • Work within and potentially contribute to a design system with full understanding of the overarching structure and implementation methods for patterns and components
  • Understand that the tiniest detail can make all the difference in designing a great product, with focused attention on meeting product requirements, providing consistent and error-free experiences aligned to brand identity, and ensuring every aspect of the design is accessible and inclusive

Experience consulting:

  • Create solutions together with a cross-functional Agile team, considering how digital, physical, and service channels work together
  • Use problem definition techniques and data to drive project requirements
  • Facilitate ideation efforts with a focus on the problem to solve, creating a conversation of "how might we"
  • Lead reviews and drive decision-making with the understanding great products are achieved iteratively
  • Raise potential roadblocks to team or project leads and collaboratively identify how to remove blockers
  • Maintain the high standards set by the group, including channel standards, content standards and the Charles Schwab design system

Team Leadership

  • Lead projects across XD disciplines to create seamless experiences
  • Work with others on team to estimate project completion based on task completion estimates resource availability
  • Foresee potential roadblocks and raise to project leads

Your approach:

  • Use various communication techniques to showcase work and persuade through rationale and storytelling
  • Propose solutions that benefit all parties and craft arguments to support position
  • Have a design position and be open and flexible to moderate that position when new information is presented
  • Work within an undefined space to define potential paths forward through problem definition and design thinking
  • Recognize challenges are part of the process and collaboratively find root causes to determine next steps and new directions

What you have

Required Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of product design experience, focused on digital products or equivalent
  • An online portfolio showing process and design thinking
  • Experience with all aspects of a user-centered design process, including user research, developing user flows, creating wireframes, and creating content specifications
  • Experience working in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team within an iterative process and an Agile development methodology
  • Strong self-management skills, comfortable with substantial responsibility, working directly with our client partners, and capable of managing your project schedules
  • Proficient in design tools like Figma, FigJam, Ditto, and Writer
  • Experience running design sessions with cross-functional teams
  • Comfortable in a project-driven work environment, with a positive attitude and strong work ethic

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ year of product design experience for touch-based mobile interfaces
  • Effective relationship builder--ability to partner cross-functionally, cross-enterprise and work effectively with various levels of the organization as well as various personality types
