DAFgiving360™ is an independent nonprofit organization created to increase charitable giving in the U.S. We offer a donor-advised fund program and related philanthropic tools and guidance that empower donors to incorporate charitable planning into their everyday lives and make a bigger difference in the world. Since our founding in 1999 as an 501(c)(3) public charity, DAFgiving360 donors have recommended over $40 billion in grants to more than 270,000 charities.

DAFgiving360 has entered into a services agreement with Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. for administrative and other services, including human resources. This position will be an employee of Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. and will be subject to its policies and procedures but will report to and be accountable to DAFgiving360 for day-to-day activities.

Our opportunity:

As a member of the DAFgiving360 Legal Team, you will be responsible for providing legal advice and counsel to assigned departments and functions to support DAFgiving360's activities and purpose. These activities include but are not limited to: marketing and content management, branding and related contracts / agreements, complaints and legal actions, content housed in the knowledge center, creating and maintaining standards and policies, and advising on strategic projects.

This position is an individual contributor reporting to the Director, Legal Counsel, and works closely with other members of the Legal Team.

What you are good at:

  • Drafting, negotiating, and reviewing agreements / other legal documents, building standard forms as necessary and interacting with key clients and stakeholders.
  • Monitoring and advising of changes in applicable law, rules, guidance, and supervisory systems and industry trends to maintain appropriate standards.
  • Providing appropriate counsel to identify and mitigate potential risk or significant negative impact to the entity.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of policies, procedures and standard processes and advising business divisions and management of potential legal risks and implications of the same.
  • Developing, providing, and managing training and presentations on relevant legal matters.
  • Working closely with cross-functional business partners, in support of DAFgiving360's donors and advisors.
  • Able to successfully work independently with little supervision, in alignment with team standards and practices, and still be a contributing member of a small dynamic legal team.

What you have

To ensure that we fulfill our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • J.D. or Master of Laws from an accredited law school and state bar admission in good standing.
  • At least 5+ years of transactional or litigation experience with either a U.S. law firm and/or in-house legal department with a focus on regulatory compliance or tax law and related matters. Knowledge of investment oversight is a plus.
  • Knowledge of donor-advised fund (IRS, State Charities Regulators and fiduciary rules), RIA, SEC, banking and broker/dealer regulatory environments and ability to apply to DAFgiving360's unique situation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to collaborate with all levels of staff including senior management.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Confirmed ability to establish foundations for influence, building credibility and open, unquestioning relationships.
  • Commitment to integrity, excellence, collaboration, and teamwork.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, respond to shifting requirements and business obstacles, and achieve practical solutions.
  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated judgment to evaluate risks, costs, and benefits.
  • Demonstrated eagerness and ability to seek and embrace new solutions.

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities
