Reporting to a Senior Manager - People Leader within the Third-Party Risk Management (TPRM) Department, the ideal candidate will support accurate and timely initial and ongoing vendor control environment assessments, internal risk and control self-assessments as well as business unit control assessments, automation research and execution, and oversight of first line of defense partners. The Specialist is also responsible for effective challenge, issue identification, determining issue residual risk ratings and escalation of issues identified within a vendor control environment. This position is responsible for understanding the third-party lifecycle and risk exposures, executing all processes in line with the Third-party Risk Management Standards. This position requires working with and leveraging other professional groups and partners such as Corporate Risk Management teams, Vendor Management, Contract Owners, Business Unit Compliance, Corporate Legal Services, among others. You may also be tasked with project related work and/or tasked to learn and support other TPRM areas as needed. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports.

What you're good at

As a Specialist, Third Party Risk Management, your responsibilities may include, but not limited to the following activities:

  • Willingness to learn risk management standards and regulatory requirements such as SR 13-19 / SR 23-4 and its impact on the Third-party Risk Management program and the firm's legal entities.
  • Understanding inherent risks associated with outsourcing business processes to third parties.
  • Executing risk and control self-assessments in line with applicable procedures and standards.
  • Executing business unit control assessments in line with applicable procedures and standards.
  • Executing vendor control assessment processes in line with applicable procedures and standards.
  • Assessing third party control environments through various documents and methods e.g., policies, procedures, questionnaires, SOC Reports and remote assessments.
  • Determining the quality of a vendor control environment and its capacity to manage risks associated with performing business processes on behalf of the firm.
  • Identifying and executing on opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness, including recognizing opportunities for improvement and recommending changes.
  • Thriving in a collaborative and ambiguous environment.
  • Providing consultation support regarding third party risk identification to business owners, vendor contacts and other key stakeholders.
  • Participating in projects within the Operational Risk Management space.
  • Practicing continuous self-improvement through learning opportunities, mentorship programs and industry groups.

What you have

To ensure that we fulfill our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2-year college degree, preferably in the areas of Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration, or Business Management. Military experience may be considered in lieu of this requirement.
  • 1+ years of experience supporting risk management activities in financial services; Military experience may be considered in lieu of this requirement.
  • Fully proficient in Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4-year college degree.
  • Tableau and data visualization experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required. This includes having the ability to build positive relationships, collaborate effectively, and establish trust, respect, and confidence with peers and or stakeholders.
  • Proven analytical and research skills.
  • Proven ability to identify and solve complex issues in a team environment.
  • Experience being part of or leading projects within the financials services and/or risk management spaces.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, including building credibility with peers and key stakeholders (often at a Director and Managing Director level).
