We are looking for a Disaster Recovery Systems Engineer to join the Technology Operations Resiliency - Technical Attestation & Planning team to lead numerous DR Exercise planning activities ensuring Schwab will continue to deliver service to clients and employees in the event of Data Center or regional disasters; and ensuring performance attestation and continuous improvement of DR capabilities. The ideal candidate shares our passion for technology, innovation, excellence and enjoys fast-paced environments and embraces change passionately. The candidate will work alongside a team of engineers and analysts responsible for leading training for quarterly DR Exercises, participate in after-hours quarterly DR Exercises, scheduling, testing, supporting DR related data quality initiatives, evaluating, and reporting results of Disaster Recovery activities across all of STS development and infrastructure communities.

What you have

Required Qualifications:

  • Lead quarterly DR Exercise trainings, Planning meetings, Voice of Customer Retro meetings, and Office Hour meetings
  • Serve as the Agile development team member to participate in pre-exercise DR Plan readiness & post-exercise failure remediation activities
  • Work within the TOR standard operating processes to deliver DR product and services, ensuring work you're doing is done well
  • Enforce the Disaster Recovery (DR) Standard, and guide clients in the use of standard methodologies
  • Perform detailed analytic activities related to DR Standard consistency
  • Deliver ongoing feedback regarding risk management, mitigation, and prevention
  • Actively participate in working sessions to address DR Exercise failures and issues including measurement of Recovery Time Objective (RTO)
  • Continually improve internal DR processes utilizing constantly evolving requirements and technologies available
  • Demonstrate excellent judgment with the ability to navigate ambiguity
  • Make good decisions and identify issues
  • Provide possible solutions and know when to escalate matters
  • Self-starter takes initiative to work independently

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience dedicated to IT infrastructure systems specifically systems engineering
  • 5+ years in Disaster Recovery operations and management
  • 5+ years of experience in Public Cloud deployment
  • Detailed knowledge of current Disaster Recovery planning techniques and technologies as well as the methods used in performing risk and business impact analysis
  • Must be comfortable to act as liaison for TOR and examination of Disaster Recovery Plans
  • Experience managing medium - large projects simultaneously using well developed sound project management skills
  • Experience working in multi-functional IT teams
  • In-depth understanding of current recovery solutions, high availability architectures and mainframe architectures as is knowledge of crisis communication solutions is beneficial
  • Ability to plan, organize, and lead the testing of emergency response, recovery support, on time delivery and business resumption procedures using attention to detail
  • DCO / ITO operations background is recommended
  • Understanding of elementary IT server & network (IP, LB, Firewall) principles is critical
  • Experience establishing, managing, and communicating with application Subject Matter Experts, working to cultivate positive relationships
  • Strategic problem solver with strong analytical skills
  • Strong time management and organization skills
  • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills to convey plans, exercises, and activities
  • Troux, xMatters, MIR3 working experience is beneficial
  • MS Office Suite, MS Project, SharePoint, Remedy, 3+ years of delivering results using an Agile Framework (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) and Atlassian (Jira/Confluence/BitBucket/Bamboo/Github)
