What you'll do:
Most 401k plans we service contain a loan provision, a popular feature that many participants take advantage of at some point during their retirement savings phase. Our surveys have found that participants who take out a loan have a Client Promoter Score three times greater than those that do not, making the servicing of those loans even more critical. In many cases, this loan may be the only time those participants contact us or use our services. Getting the process right is critical to their needs and satisfaction with Schwab and this employer benefit. As a loan Specialist, you will have a unique opportunity of defining the service that will be delivered to both the participant and plan sponsor. The Sr. Specialist is expected to be a subject matter expert in retirement plan loan processing and maintenance while providing consultative services to SRPS plan sponsors. Specifically, the position responsibilities include:
Work directly with plan sponsors to bring loans current by creating customized actionable plans, including consulting on corrective methodologies.
- Research loan and payroll history to provide plan sponsors with resolution and accurate data.
- Effectively communicate with plan sponsors on the day-to-day plan needs (loan specific).
- Coordinate with internal business partners on participant and client requests to ensure timely completion.
- Work collaboratively within the organization and share best practices to meet and exceed client needs and expectation.
- Participate in new plan and merger conversion meetings, assisting with new client onboarding efforts.
What you have
Required competencies:
- Must have 3-5 years of experience in Qualified Retirement Plan Administration, ASPPA designation (QKA, QPA) preferred, but not required.
- Must have 3+ years of loan administration experience including coordinating with payroll providers to ensure loans remain in compliance with IRC 72(p).
- Proven ability to resolve complex loan administrative issues for highly sensitive clients using strong relationships and communication skills to manage higher level cross-functional stakeholders.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including comfortability with presenting to prospective and existing clients and internal departments.
- Creative thought process with a proven track record of continuous process improvement ideas directly impacting the participant and client loan experience.
- Ability to exercise good judgment, knowing how and when to call on other resources.
- Outstanding time management skills, acute attention to detail, including exceptional organizational and analytical skills.
- College degree or equivalent work experience
Preferred competencies:
- Demonstrated experience in supporting conversions by accurately identifying issues on recordkeeper files, proposing solutions, and actively engaging in discussions with plan sponsors, recordkeepers, Conversion Managers on best practices to resolve loan issues timely.
