Corporate Vendor Management at Charles Schwab & Co. is responsible for implementing a firm-wide, end-to-end vendor management process to maximize vendor performance and value. Corporate Vendor Management is responsible for the sourcing, onboarding, risk assessment, monitoring and offboarding of third-parties; and assists Schwab in meeting regulatory and compliance requirements.

We are seeking a Senior Manager to join the Supplier Management team within Corporate Vendor Management. This role is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and ongoing refinement of Schwab's enterprise-wide critical vendor identification methodology. This methodology incorporates both qualitative and quantitative criteria, integrates business owner and stakeholder inputs, and aligns with corporate strategies to identify and manage vendors essential to Schwab's operations and resiliency. This role will also oversee the development, maintenance, and testing of critical vendor exit and recovery strategies. This includes collaborating with cross-functional teams to design and refine plans that ensure operational continuity in the event of vendor disruption, or intentional unwinding of a vendor relationship, as well as directly engaging with vendors to coordinate their participation in these activities. The Senior Manager will also be responsible for presenting these methodologies, strategies, and outcomes to executive leadership, risk subcommittees, and other key stakeholders. This includes delivering verbal presentations and creating all necessary written content, such as executive summaries, reports, and supporting materials, to effectively communicate complex concepts to senior audiences. This highly visible position requires exceptional analytical skills, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to effectively communicate complex information to senior executives, risk forums, and regulatory stakeholders.

Corporate Vendor Management follows the three lines of defense model for risk governance. You will be a first line of defense partner responsible for compliance with all policies and procedures, as well as all applicable regulatory requirements in the context of the position.

What you have

  • 7+ years professional experience in supplier relationship management, risk management, operational resilience
  • 5+ years of experience working in a financial services or similarly regulated industry environment
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics and effectively convey insights to executive-level audiences and external stakeholders.
  • Strong executive presence, with experience presenting to boards, risk committees, and regulatory bodies.
  • Proven success in launching and managing new initiatives or programs in a corporate setting.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and collaborate effectively, influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a focus on actionable outcomes.
  • Knowledge of internal controls, financial/banking regulations, operational risk and/or vendor due diligence.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel, with the ability to prepare impactful presentations and analyze large datasets. Experience with Ariba Cloud, other third-party risk management tools and technology preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience is required.

What you'll do:

  • Develop and Enhance Critical Vendor Identification Methodology: Design, implement, and continuously improve the firm's methodology for identifying critical vendors based on objective and subjective risk and criticality factors. Ensure alignment with corporate strategies and incorporate business owner and stakeholder feedback.
  • Critical Vendor Exit and Recovery Strategy Management: Lead the development and ongoing refinement of critical vendor exit strategies to minimize operational disruption. Expand CVM's role in establishing, maintaining, and testing vendor recovery strategies to enhance operational resilience. Coordinate cross-functional teams to design comprehensive recovery plans, ensuring they align with enterprise-wide business continuity objectives. Work directly with vendors to ensure their cooperation and alignment with exit and recovery strategy requirements, including participation in testing exercises.
  • Executive Communication and Reporting: Present methodologies, strategies, and analysis results to executive leadership and risk subcommittees, ensuring clarity and alignment with strategic goals. Develop all written content, including executive summaries, presentations, and reports, to effectively communicate complex concepts to senior stakeholders. Represent the CVM function in risk forums, board meetings, and regulatory examinations, with a focus on operational resilience and third-party risk.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration and Leadership: Coordinate across cross-functional teams to apply subject matter expertise in assessing vendor criticality. Foster collaboration across organizational boundaries to ensure informed, enterprise-wide decision-making.
  • Strategic Program Implementation: Develop and launch new programs or initiatives that address vendor management priorities, incorporating stakeholder input and best practices. Drive program adoption and success by managing ambiguity and navigating complex corporate structures.
  • Compliance and Operational Resilience: Maintain adherence to third-party risk metrics, ensuring data accuracy, completeness, and timeliness in vendor management processes. Support audits and regulatory examinations by providing detailed and timely data and insights related to critical vendor management activities.
