The Business Management Office (BMO) within the First Line Risk Management Office (1RMO) is responsible for centralizing business management activities, supporting business unit risk management activities, partnering with Schwab's second line of defense to facilitate risk program change management, and leads working groups across the first and second lines of defense to better enable risk management practices. The BMO team members havea deep understanding of risk management practices, project and change management, and relationship management.

The Senior Team Manager role requires strong understanding of project design and management along with excellent relationship management skills. This individual will lead and supervise a team of project and program management professionals who engage with our business partners to identify and assess risk management improvement opportunities, as well as design and deliver solutions. In some cases, these solutions will become programs to which BMO provides on-going support or leadership. This position will be an integral part of the Risk Management strategy, supporting senior leadership in the planning, implementation, and execution of the internal control testing program. Qualified persons should be experienced in people management, risk mitigation, policy execution and relationship management.
Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following activities:
- Design and drive project plans to enable 1RMO to better support 1LOD in execution and implementation of risk program requirements, provide guidance on risk exposure and development of solutions for internal program gaps and opportunities
- Lead the Electronic Communications Working Group, vetting new requests and support business plan development for review and disposition of request
- Key contributor to development of Electronic Communications governance and business partner support in alignment with Compliance to enable effective risk program management and communication
- Develop and maintain relationships with business partners in all lines of defense, assisting to influence and build consensus for important risk programs and advocacy of 1LOD concerns
- Break down barriers and serve as the point of escalation for team members.
- Demonstrate the ability to lead a team and cultivate a strong working relationship with team members, peers and business partners.
- Assist in assessment of partner requests and changing requirements to prioritize work and appropriately manage resources
- Stay current on industry and regulatory news and issues, as well as technology and vendor offering services and products that may enable Schwab and 1RMO to better manage risk and associated processes/procedures
- Train and onboard new members and integrate them cohesively into the team dynamics.
- Possess strong communication skills with the ability to articulate effectively and expertly.
What you have
Required Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree.
- Five or more years of work experience in project management or risk management.
- Five or more years of people management experience.
- Working knowledge of identifying risk and developing risk management program, including awareness of applications and tools to facilitate program management, preferably in a financial services or banking environment.
- Strong Microsoft Office knowledge; preferably advanced Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel skills and familiarity with SharePoint and Tableau.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree such as MBA.
- Professional designation such as CPA, CIA, or Series 7 (active registration).
- Five or more years of financial service experience with strong understanding of banking regulations, FINRA and SEC rules including the Investment Advisors Act and securities industry practices.
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills and ability to communicate with all levels of management.
- Ability to build strong relationships and work cross functionally with internal and external constituents.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify, research and weigh risk and control issues.
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with supporting team members to meet departmental goals.
- Strong time management, organization and prioritization skills; ability to complete multiple concurrent tasks within close deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and detail.
- Exercise sound judgment to influence a strong risk management culture across business practices.
- Self-motivated along with the ability to bring projects and reporting to conclusion.
