As Schwab's central AI business enablement team, we bridge the gap between research, technology, and business units, ensuring that AI-powered innovation is integrated seamlessly and strategically throughout the organization. From exploring transformative AI technologies to delivering practical applications, our team is dedicated to empowering every corner of Schwab with the tools, insights, and capabilities to succeed in an increasingly AI-driven world.

The AI Incubation and Enablement team is looking for a talented, technical, hands-on Senior Engineer to drive the development of innovative AI solutions. This position will be focused on making significant contributions to the team in development practices, operational standards and platform evolution while driving rapid, iterative software development using Large Language Models.

The Senior Engineer on the AI Incubation and Enablement team is a hands-on development position. You will be a strong developer on the team with deep technical knowledge as well as the ability to help other team members in solving complex technical issues. You will work closely with architects, technologists, and business partners to align with the team and organization technology strategies. You will mentor junior engineers on platform and application solutions and will focus on building strong technology practices on the team.

You have a bias for action and are good at finding a way to make progress and execute even in the face of technical challenges. You are constantly learning about new technologies with continuous innovation and adoption of new standards and best practices. This is an opportunity to be a part of a cutting-edge team respected for products and platforms used across multiple Schwab organizations.

What you have

Required Skllls:

  • Bachelor's degree or advanced degrees in Computer Science or related field.
  • 8+ years of software development experience and 4+ years of experience as a hands-on senior engineer in startups and large organizations.
  • 5+ years of experience building complex products from scratch and running them in production.
  • 3 + years of experience building applications that use AI models to deliver business value.
  • 3+ years of experience building applications and data pipelines that interface with large datasets.
  • 3+ years of experience with containers and cloud-native applications, and the ability to operationalize them in the public cloud with infrastructure as code.

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong computer science fundamentals and experience working across different parts of the tech stack.
  • Focus on quality in everything you do. Continue to raise the bar and drive others to deliver high-quality products, with experience writing tests at all levels of the test pyramid.
  • Strong communication skills - you balance written and verbal communication to clearly share your perspective with others on the team.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and helping them grow their technical skills through clear feedback and code reviews.
  • Demonstrated mindset of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Ability to solve complex problems with ambiguous or incomplete data in highly distributed systems.
  • Demonstrated business domain knowledge related to all products you have worked on.
  • Curiosity about new technologies and processes - you always seek to improve yourself and everyone around you and proactively seek and share knowledge with others on your team.
  • Experience working with LLMs and shipping LLM-powered applications to production is a big plus.
  • Experience with Python, Java and Angular preferred but not required.

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
