Corporate Risk Management (CRM) aims to ensure successful client and shareholder outcomes by identifying, monitoring, mitigating, and reporting risks. Corporate Risk Management provides a second line of defense for Schwab by providing independent assessments by using models, controls and systems to measure financial, operational, compliance, and legal risks to Schwab's business, employees, and customers.

Schwab's CRM Data Applications and Architecture team drives data excellence and innovation across the organization. We leverage the newest technologies and methods to centralize, automate, and optimize analytic and application data for all CRM functional areas. Our team fosters a culture of data quality and governance among end users and business developers. We stand at the forefront of design and implementation of next-generation platform tools that capture, analyze, and empower teams to act on enterprise-wide risk events. In this role, you will contribute to the creation of an automated system to detect potential Financial Crimes using easily modifiable, fully auditable, and well-governed models.

This is an individual contributor role.

What you'll do:

  • Build solutions using C#, Python, R, and SQL to move, validate, and transform large datasets
  • Create automated processes that ensure adherence to data governance standards
  • Contribute to an Agile software team to deliver results iteratively
  • Present approaches and findings to internal management and stakeholders
  • Work with CRM, technology, and other business partners to achieve objectives
  • Create model implementation documents for internal and external verification, review, and audit

What you have

To ensure that we fulfill our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years of professional work experience as a data engineer or 3+ years of experience with a postgraduate degree relating to large data sets (computer science, finance, economics, math, physical sciences, etc.)
  • Professional experience with SQL tables, views, and query optimization
  • Professional experience with at least one of these programming languages: C#, Python, R, SQL
  • Data analysis experience with relational database and data warehouse systems, in a professional setting
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to generate high-quality procedural documentation
  • Experience working with minimal oversight to create solutions to unexpected problems and a professional demeanor suitable for a corporate workplace

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Google Cloud and BigQuery
  • Experience with data and methods related to Anti-Money Laundering
  • Familiarity with unit testing, package development, GitHub, and Atlassian products
