Your opportunity

We are looking for a Sr. Performance Engineer to join for our AS Wealth and Portfolio engineering team. Ideal candidate is passionate about performance and proactive monitoring of multi-tier applications and end user experience . This candidate is a confident self-starter who's not afraid to dive into areas they may not familiar with, communicates well. Lastly, they must be able to work with team members across geographic locations.

What you'll do:

  • Performance test planning for web applications (Angular, ASP.NET and Java) and standalone windows applications (E.g: Schwab Data Delivery, Irebal etc)
  • Creating and reviewing test data, scripts and performance test executions using OpenText LoadRunner and Apache JMeter, having experience in various LoadRunner protocols (E.g: Web http/html, Webservices, TruClient, Java vuser etc)
  • Monitoring CPU usage, Memory usage, Garbage collection, Request rate, error rates and average response time ;
  • Review Project specifications and working with multiple teams to understand the nonfunctional requirements including system architecture, design, internal and external interfaces.
  • Experience in Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF) to assess the capacity for current and future growth along with strong hands on experience in monitoring and debugging the issues at container level as well as application level.
  • Ability to investigate and identify root cause for the performance bottlenecks at web (IIS), application (Java and .NET), database (Oracle/MongoDB) and message queue (RabbitMQ and Kafka) layers.
  • Configure APM tools like AppDynamics for the monolith ASP.NET, PCF .NET core and Java applications and to create alerts and setup monitoring dashboards using AppDynamics and Splunk.
  • Assessing performance requirements on release basis to ensure no impact to user experience due to code changes/enhancements in each sprint.
  • Experience in automating application workflow using Puppeteer or any other framework and capture browser performance monitoring using custom frameworks developed using Node.js and lighthouse modules.
  • Engineer solutions and establish standards for APM infrastructure, agent deployments, including optimizations and tunings per requirements.
  • Provide guidance for application/operational teams to setup policies, alerts, dashboards and custom configuration to get full visibility into their entire environment
  • Work closely with product owner and team members to decompose stories, design features, and prioritize tasks
  • Identify technology gaps/risks early and establish mitigation plans

What you have

  • 8+ years of overall IT experience in application development/system administration, 3+ years focused on APM tools
  • 1-2 years of Schwab technology domain experience as a current or recent contractor or employee
  • Deep knowledge, internals of APM products such as AppDynamics, Dynatrace, New Relic or similar in Unix environments is required. (Appdynamics is preferred)
  • Proven proficiency with Monitoring of large-scale .NET & Java and database applications.
  • Working with a wide variety of platforms and application stacks, ability to understand new application frameworks environments quickly is required.
  • Solid systems administration understanding (UNIX, Linux or Windows)
  • Experience in one of the scripting languages (PHP, Powershell, Python, or Perl)
  • Experience troubleshooting Operating Systems and Applications
  • Experience in an Agile/DevOps environment
  • Experience with data storage and data backup technologies
  • Experience in Cloud Foundry or AWS or relevant experience is preferred.
  • Experience in Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment methodologies
  • Strong influencing, negotiation, and problem-solving skills with an ability to identify problems/gaps, assess the requirements to address, and get buy-in to implement solutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required for composing and delivering technical presentations or other forms of documentation to various level of technical and non-technical management
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related fields is required.
  • Financial Industry experience (plus)
