The Network Observability and Automation team is seeking a Sr Software Engineer with extensive experience in network management. This team partners with stakeholders across Network Services and Operations to provide next generation automation and visibility into the health and capacity of the Schwab network. You will be a key contributor focused on these network management disciplines:
- Network Monitoring and Observability: The team provides solutions to monitor, analyze and gain deep insights into network performance, health and security using real-time data and analytics. You will help drive the rollout, adoption and continuous improvement of solutions consumed by our Network Operators, Engineers and Capacity Planning team that help ensure that our network is running optimally.

- Network Automation: Our automation practice develops pragmatic, reliable and repeatable process automation, and optimization through a combination of network engineering knowledge and coding. We are looking for someone with a passion for building software defined functionality within a programmable infrastructure and driving process transformation to make Schwab's infrastructure highly automatable.
This role is instrumental in improving the organization's automation framework and processes, along with developing code and playbooks. The engineer will partner with multiple infrastructure and operations teams, ensuring successful and efficient deployment solutions and creating corresponding documentation.
What you have
Required Qualifications:
- BA/BS in computer science or related technical field
- 5+ years of experience building and maintaining network management solutions
- 5+ years scripting in Python, Perl and/or shell
- 5+ year experience managing applications on both Windows and Linux
Preferred Qualifications:
- In-depth experience with network monitoring, telemetry solutions, traces and SNMP
- In-depth experience building automation on automation platforms such as Ansible and Terraform
- In-depth experience leveraging metrics, logs, traces and topology to provide comprehensive visibility into network health and capacity
- Experience engineering and maintaining enterprise quality application deployments that are scalable, resilient and highly available in either Linux, Windows or containerized environments
- Ability to gather requirements, propose designs, and implement technologies that enable teams to have enhanced visibility of the state of the network and applications
- Working knowledge of route, switch, firewall and load balancers. Cisco or Juniper certifications is a plus
- Experience working with Agile methodologies and tools (JIRA)
- Experience working in a large and complex enterprise environment
- Strong sense of ownership, and self-motivated with a passion for resolving technical problems
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Has good judgment, a demonstrated commitment to high standards of ethics, regulatory compliance, customer service and business integrity
