We are in the process of modernizing our Flexible Commissions (FLEX) platform and looking for a Software Application Engineer who can define and implement emerging and best practices in application development, testing and maintenance & support activities. FLEX offers a wide range of technology opportunities for the best and brightest people to grow and demonstrate their skills as they develop leading edge financial solutions.

What you are good at

As a Software Applications engineer in the FLEX team you will:

  • Acquire deep domain/functional knowledge of our Flexible commissions system & idea about upstream/downstream applications
  • Provide support on production and development tasks. This includes participating in the application queues (Kanban /Scrum board), ensuring efficient and successful completion of tasks according to priority and relevance to the business. Work on business user stories involving analysis, design, and development project tasks
  • Creating and fostering strong partnerships with product owners and users. Ensuring technology tradeoffs are effectively communicated to the business partners
  • Sustain desirable practice of ensuring that the following Software Development Life Cycle
    • guidelines are observed:
  • Analysis and Design: Adhere to tighter design document review process among peers
  • Code Development: Employ more robust formal code reviews by requiring more lead time for reviewers to go through the walkthrough materials
  • Testing: Implementation of stronger unit testing, integration testing, regression testing, and QA testing strategies
  • Deployment, Post Deployment and Warranty support as applicable
  • Comply with STS Standards and policies, partner with platform architect and engage STS Architectural Governance bodies for review and alignment with technology strategy for all new work efforts
  • Partner closely with Architects Lead and Management in the evolution and execution of technical roadmap/blueprint for our application domain. Discuss data and reporting requirements with architects and business partners for all projects and small enhancements
  • Follow all data governance approval processes, with focus on formal data governance activities for areas governed by Enterprise data governance
  • Meet our commitments for audit and compliance. Review exceptions quarterly
  • Contribute more at cross track, large sized, cross functional meetings and address them as needed for the delivery
  • Be responsible for the quality delivery of your portion of the software backlog, end to end
  • Utilize automated software test tools and frameworks as necessary to achieve quality standards
  • Identify technology risks early and establish mitigation plans
  • Leverage, practice and support Agile software development practices
  • Interface with all relevant technology and business team members and project stakeholders and build long lasting, trusted relationships based on the quality and commitment of your deliverables

What you have

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline
  • Approximately 8+ years of development experience, with a significant portion in the Mainframe space utilizing technologies listed in the "Technical Requirements' listed below
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with remote and globally distributed teams
  • Be self-motivated, driven, and passionate in resolving complex and time-sensitive business problems through simple and innovative technical solutions. Must demonstrate a knack to figuring out solutions to complex problems
  • Ability to independently work as a contributing member in a high-paced and focused team
  • Passionate about learning new technologies
  • Ability to translate requirements into technical specs, task estimates, adhering to committed delivery schedules
  • Partner with QA team to support test plan strategies, integration testing, UAT

Technical Requirements:

  • Languages: COBOL, CICS, SQL, EZTRIEVE, JCL, CLIST
  • Database Management Systems: DB2, SQL
  • Tools: CHANGEMAN, XPEDITER, REMEDY, CONTROL-M, JIRA, SPUFI, OMEGAMON
  • Distributed (preferred): C#, JAVA, Aerospike, RabbitMQ, Bamboo, Bitbucket, Veracode, GitHub
  • Exposure to cloud architecture principles like 12 factors etc.
  • Familiarity with continuous integration /continuous delivery (CI/CD) techniques

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in financial services industry with knowledge of Broker/Dealer functions
  • Experience working as an agile scrum team
