Your opportunity

The Strategy & Administration organization, reporting into the CEO of Charles Schwab, is responsible for corporate strategy, corporate development, cross-enterprise initiatives, vendor management, and real estate functions as we join our colleagues in championing the goals of engaged investors and registered investment advisors (RIAs) with passion and integrity.

The Corporate Strategy department is responsible for supporting the Executive Counsel in setting the long-term growth strategy at the firm level, aligning Schwabbies around a shared forward direction, optimizing our strategic initiatives for benefit of clients & shareholders, and facilitating monitoring of business outcomes. Functions span competitive intelligence, industry research, strategic initiative development and corporate strategic planning. Team members are afforded exposure across the company as they work on high priority initiatives for our CEO and members of the Executive Council, with the opportunity to make big picture connections across Schwab's enterprises while learning from internal experts.

With $10T in client assets across 34 million accounts, we are seeking a Director of Corporate Strategy to drive identification, evaluation and synthesis of Schwab's longer-term strategic opportunities. Responsibilities include evaluating growth & efficiency pathways, executing new strategy consulting projects, articulating our multi-year roadmap, and storytelling to frame recommendations to our Executive Council and Board. The role will be based in Westlake, TX and report to the head of Corporate Strategy.

What you have

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 7 years of business strategy-related experience, preferably in consulting or internal strategy groups, and a minimum of 15 years of total work experience.
  • Direct people leadership experience overseeing diverse teams and motivating employees to achieve both tactical and strategic delivery goals.
  • Crafting impactful executive presentations articulating our vision, strategy, and progress for both internal and external audiences.
  • Executive presence/ awareness to convey complex concepts through various mediums in relatable terms and anchored in business meaning across various use cases (broad strategic questions, targeted strategic initiatives, board-level communications, etc.)
  • Leading ad-hoc strategic project engagements with cross-functional stakeholders, including C-suite level executives (e.g. firmwide strategic decisions, growth & efficiency opportunities, operating model enhancements).
  • Program management oversight of complex initiatives spanning multiple groups and large organizations ultimately providing significant value to the company while mitigating associated risks.
  • Demonstrated ability to break down high-level requests/ questions into actionable research & analytics plans.
  • Proactively owning projects from start to finish, including developing comprehensive project plans with the appropriate scope and timeline, and driving accountability with partners across Schwab's enterprises.
  • Identifying connections between seemingly unrelated ideas and leveraging this insight to make better business decisions.
  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Strong acumen in brokerage & wealth management - prior direct experience strongly preferred.

Preferred Experience:

  • Crystalizing and stewarding long-term strategies at a total company level.
  • Driving identification, prioritization, and results realization/ accountability for cross-enterprise initiatives building scale & efficiency.
  • Identifying and engaging key stakeholders for expertise and context, conducting relevant quantitative analysis, building a strong storyline with recommendations, and presenting objective insights & recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Engage, develop and inspire team members to deliver on a portfolio of strategy projects while growing their careers.
  • Successful history of influencing and cultivating strong business relationships across departments and levels to create alignment and support.
  • Curiosity & passion for research, industry trends, strategy development, technology, etc.
  • Thrives on initiating, building, and cultivating strong authentic relationships inside and outside the group.
