Your opportunity

The Next Generation Order Management System (ngOMS) team is responsible for creating an industry leading order management system to support Schwab's trading environment. We are looking for a DevOps Engineer role to advance the Next Generation Order Management System (ngOMS) platform's pipeline resiliency, adaptability, and speed to production. Proficiency with the Java tools we utilize for automation, delivery, and the software development lifecycle will be critical to your success. In addition to your technical work, you would be collaborating with the Development, QA, and SRE teams to optimize the environments and tooling. You will also interact closely with our product partners, support teams, and other technical leaders. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of building and supporting Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery pipelines, ideally in a financial trading environment.

This role will require the ability to regularly work in a Schwab headquarters location.

What you have

  • 5+ years administration and engineering support of RHEL environments and hosting Java based applications
  • 5+ years developing and optimizing CI/CD pipelines
  • More than 3 year's experience building and administering Jenkins applications utilizing Groovy scripting
  • Familiarity with System Automation and Configuration management, utilizing tools like; Puppet, Foreman, Terraform, Salt, Ansible, etc.
  • Version Control System Management using tools like Bitbucket, Git, and Artifactory in a Java-based environment, 3+ year's experience
  • 2+ years experience with Gradle & Maven
  • Familiarity with the following languages to support the ngOMS pipeline and applications; Shell scripting, YAML, Python, Ruby, JSON, XML
  • Provide knowledge transition to team members on various automation and configuration tools
  • High sense of urgency with the ability to calmly collaborate within the ngOMS team and the wider Schwab technology organization

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of Red Hat Enterprise Linux background
  • Knowledge of Java programming (at least 3 years)
  • 1-2 years of Schwab technology domain experience as a current or recent contractor or employee
  • 2+ years of Google Cloud Platform support or AWS
  • Familiarity with CouchDB and PostgreSQL
  • Understanding of performance best practices, performance key metrics, and statistics
  • 5+ years with distributed systems and networking
  • Experience with troubleshooting/diagnosing JVM issues (e.g. thread dumps, garbage collection and memory management)
  • Experience with large financial services corporations or similar industry
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and problem solving/decision making skills
  • Must be very detail oriented
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team setting as well as independently with minimal error and guidance
  • Above average verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively across teams and departments
  • Ability to draft a plan, socialize for feedback/new input, establish a roadmap & execute providing updates to stakeholders on an established cadence
