The technical engineering manager will be a hands-on lead engineer with technical/business acumen and leadership experience that excels in a dynamic, fast-moving, and agile environment and is passionate about developing high quality, high performance, and scalable solutions. The candidate will work aside a team of seasoned engineers whose main objective is to maintain all aspects of the system health and ensure the on-time, quality delivery of platform and system releases.

This position will be part of the Operational Data Exchange (ODX) Technology team within the Data Organization at Schwab focusing on providing Operational Intelligence and Insights, and position Schwab to remain a Data Driven organization using a world class Data Exchange (DX) platform. The ODX team is beginning its cloud journey, and this role will play a key role in modernizing and migrating existing on prem Data Exchanges (DX's) to Google Cloud. The DX's support various critical business functions and business units - Finance, Futures & Forex Trading, Risk, Treasury, Compliance, etc. This is a role for someone who is excited to lead and build a future state data platform that is going to be pivotal to drive client-centricity, reducing time to market, scale & increasing efficiency. Ideal candidates enjoy fast-paced environments, thrive under ambiguity, driven and requires less oversight and embrace change passionately. In this role you will:

  • Work with end users to understand the business outcomes, data required to enable those outcomes, design and build data pipelines to deliver the data and operational intelligence.
  • Drive Agile development supporting organization priorities and innovation.
  • Work closely with development, product owner and team members to decompose stories, design features, and prioritize tasks.
  • Lead in execution of application support and automation for deployments.
  • Interface with product owner and key stakeholders in Project Management, Business, Development, QA and Technology Operations to ensure high quality delivery of software projects on time and on budget.
  • Help identify technology risks and dependencies early to establish mitigation plans.
  • Create and maintain artifacts for production support and deployment processes.
  • Meet periodically with onshore and offshore developers and application support to review and improve processes.
  • Utilize automated software tools and frameworks for deployments and on-going maintenance activities.
  • Support integration and modernization efforts.

What you have

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or similar/equivalent area of study
  • 2+ years experience working in the financial services industry.
  • 5+ years of data engineering and automation experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in cloud-based technologies (GCP preferred or AWS).
  • 4+ years of expertise in ETL and BI (Reporting) tools such as SSIS/SSRS, Informatica, Tableau, Power BI, MS SQL, Google Composer, Airflow, Cloud SQL and Python.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Futures & Forex Trading and data platforms.
  • Good understanding of latest Architecture and Development Standards and Guidelines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required for composing and delivering technical presentations or other forms of documentation to various levels of technical and non-technical management.
  • Proficient managing multiple priorities in a dynamic, geographically dispersed environment.
  • Good understanding of Database, preferably SQL and/or PostGres.
  • Good understanding of Data pipelines and patterns.
  • Experience in Python/Spark coding skills.
  • Experience in dev tools such as GitHub, Bamboo, JMeter, SonarQube.
  • Experience with mapping data required for regulatory, non-regulatory data needs.

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
