The Investor Communications team resides in the Corporate Affairs Group at Charles Schwab, which is responsible for managing the company's image and reputation. The Investor Communications team supports external and internal communications for Schwab's retail business, which serves mass affluent and high net worth investors, traders, and international clients.
The team's primary objectives are to:
- Drive positive external visibility for Schwab's retail business and expand and deepen our relationships with earned media and influencers.
- Use multiple channels to position Schwab positively in coordination with broader business objectives and marketing efforts.
- Showcase the firm's leadership, innovations, and advancements through proactive storytelling in earned, owned and internal channels.
- Manage strategic and impactful internal communications to employees.
- Protect the firm's reputation with issues and crisis management.

Examples of our activities include:
- Developing and executing strategic news announcements and product launches
- Developing messaging and talking points for a range of topics, news, and senior-level executives
- Building relationships and interacting with the media on behalf of the firm
- Developing and executing internal leadership messages, executive town halls, and internal leader and business content
- Leading and supporting issues management related to the retail business
The Investor Communications team is seeking a Communications Manager who will be responsible for supporting a range of EXTERNAL communications activities, primarily focused on Public Relations and earned media engagement and relationships. This role requires persuasive and clear writing and the ability to build strong reporter relationships on behalf of the firm.
This Communications Manager will work closely with Corporate Affairs, Marketing, and business partners to plan and coordinate programs that integrate public relations, social media, employee communications, and events for a range of projects, campaigns, news announcements, and initiatives.
In this role you will support a range of PR and media relations activities including:
- Field incoming media inquiries and work with internal subject matter experts to develop responses, often on tight deadlines.
- Develop/write PR materials including press releases, media pitches, messaging documents, and talking points.
- Conduct media coverage monitoring, reporting, and measurement/analysis.
- Develop and maintain media lists.
- Conduct competitor research and news monitoring.
- Help manage external PR agency team.
- Opportunity to also partner with internal communications and social media team members.
What you have
To ensure that we fulfill our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in English, Marketing, Communications/related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 3 plus years experience with external communication activities.
- 3 plus years experience developing and writing PR materials including press releases.
- Experience with media coverage, monitoring, reporting and measuring/analysis.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with financial services is a plus.
- Experience working with the media and a passion for news.
- PR agency experience is a plus.
- Exceptional organization and time management skills-ability to traffic/manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Self-starter approach-proactive entrepreneurial spirit, a can-do demeanor, problem-solving skills and the ability to learn multiple aspects of Schwab's business quickly.
- Excellent results-manage short- and long-term projects on time with attention to detail.
- Superior communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A well-developed collaborative nature: the ability to work effectively with others toward commons goals, values effective relationships and partnering.
In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities
