Your opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Application Architect with deep expertise in optimizing developer experience for modern applications running in private cloud hosting environments. This role focuses on streamlining development workflows, improving CI/CD efficiency, enhancing cloud-native application performance, and enabling seamless developer experiences within highly scalable and secure private cloud infrastructures.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cloud-native application architecture, infrastructure automation, developer tooling, and DevOps best practices. You will work closely with software engineers, platform teams, and infrastructure architects to design and implement solutions that accelerate software delivery, improve application reliability, and enhance developer productivity.

You will take the lead in the following areas

  • Experience designing and implementing self-service developer platforms, including internal developer portals, automated provisioning, and API-driven infrastructure access.
  • Design and Implement workflows leveraging CI/CD pipelines, build automation, and deployment strategies on private cloud platforms.
  • Standardize application configurations and dependencies using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), GitOps, and declarative configurations.
  • Architect and maintain private cloud-native application hosting environments using Kubernetes, OpenShift, or Tanzu.
  • Optimize the developer interaction with cloud resources, ensuring seamless integration of compute, networking, and storage services.
  • The ability to define best practices for resource provisioning, container orchestration, and workload management to improve application scalability and resilience.
  • Patterns and approaches to drive observability improvements by implementing logging, tracing, and monitoring strategies using tools such as Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, and ELK stack.
  • Perform application performance tuning by analyzing developer workflows, infrastructure constraints, and runtime environments.
  • Ensure high availability and disaster recovery strategies for business-critical applications running in private cloud environments.
  • Implement secure-by-design architectures, ensuring compliance with internal security policies and industry standards.
  • Define and enforce access controls, RBAC, and policy-driven security automation for application deployments.
  • Integrate secrets management and encryption strategies to protect sensitive application configurations.
  • Act as a bridge between development and infrastructure teams, ensuring that application hosting environments align with developer needs.
  • Provide architectural guidance, best practices, and mentorship to engineering teams on modern application development and delivery.
  • Advocate for developer-centric cloud-native practices, improving the overall efficiency and satisfaction of engineering teams.

What you have

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 1-2 Years of Schwab Technology Experience plus 8+ years in cloud-native application architecture, developer tooling, and private cloud hosting.
  • Cloud & Infrastructure Expertise: Deep experience with private cloud platforms(e.g., OpenShift, VMware Tanzu, Kubernetes on-prem).
  • CI/CD & Developer Workflows: Proven experience optimizing CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, ArgoCD, Spinnaker)and developer workflows.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Hands-on experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, Helm, or Kustomize.
  • Programming & Scripting: Strong proficiency in Python, Golang, PowerShell, or Bash for automation and tooling development.
  • Observability & Performance Tuning: Expertise in APM tools (Datadog, New Relic), logging frameworks, and performance optimization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing internal developer platforms (IDPs) and self-service infrastructure automation.
  • Background in platform engineering and cloud automation.
  • Familiarity with multi-cluster Kubernetes architectures and service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd).
  • Knowledge of Zero Trust security models, RBAC, and policy-driven cloud security.
