We are seeking a talented and motivated Mid-Level Microsoft SQL Database Administrator to join our dynamic team in Newport News, VA. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing the complete lifecycle of SQL database software, with experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining applications that leverage these database systems. This role requires a detail-oriented individual who can work independently and collaboratively to develop robust and efficient database-driven applications.

This position is located in Newport News, VA.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
Design, implement, and maintain SQL databases in the Cloud (e.g. AWS, Azure) and On-premises environments
Monitor database performance, implement changes, and apply new patches and versions as required
Safeguard data confidentiality, integrity, and availability through regular security audits and monitoring
Develop, manage, and test backup and recovery plans to prevent data loss
Optimize database systems for peak performance and efficiency
Collaborate with stakeholders and team mates to optimize data solutions for applications
Design, develop, and maintain applications that utilize SQL Cloud and On-prem database systems to support various business processes.
Write complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and triggers to support application functionality and data manipulation requirements.
Optimize application performance by analyzing and tuning SQL queries and SQL code.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
A bachelors degree in a relevant field (i.e.: Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a similar major with extensive computer-based or technical content)
Due to the nature of the work, US citizenship and a Secret clearance are required
3-5 years experience developing and maintaining software applications with SQL databases
3-5 years experience using software tools such as Visual Studio, Visual C++ v6.x, SQL Server, and JBuilder 5.x
Strong understanding and knowledge of continuity of operations (COOP) and disaster recovery (DR)
A deep understanding of engineering concepts, including Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP)
Excellent problem solving, written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in SQL and T-SQL.
Strong understanding of SQL database design principles, normalization, and data
modeling.
Experience with SQL Server performance tuning and query optimization.
Knowledge of
Desired qualifications/non-essential skills required:
Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
Excellent interpersonal skills, good presentation, communication.
The candidate must be a team player, but be able to work independently, as required.
Ability to work within an Agile environment.
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in configuration management tools such as Jira.
Experience with cloud platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS)
Experience with DevSecOps principles and DoD policies related to the topic
CGI is required by law in some jurisdictions to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set, level, experience, relevant training, and licensure and certifications. To support the ability to reward for merit-based performance, CGI typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $88,200.00 - $195,200.00.
