Position Summary
The locksmith is a skilled professional who specializes in the installation, repair, and maintenance of locks and security systems. This position is responsible for helping individuals gain access to locked spaces, such as homes, offices, and vehicles, by using various techniques and tools. The Locksmith provides services like key cutting, lock rekeying, and lock replacement. The role involves executing master journey-level tasks related to installing, repairing, remodeling, and maintaining manual and automated locks, locking systems, security devices, and computerized access control systems. The position supports the maintenance manager in obtaining pricing and quotes for repairing or replacing equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Installs, repairs, and maintains commercial lockable hardware such as doors, automatic electric doors, windows, lockers, and magnetic keying systems to ensure the safety of facilities.

• Produces and/or modifies hardware for locks to meet specific requirements.

• Makes new keys and replaces broken or lost keys promptly to maintain security standards.

• Designs and maintains the master key system to ensure efficient access control.

• Designs, modifies, and implements security policies and procedures to enhance facility security.

• Designs, implements, and maintains a preventative maintenance program to prolong the lifespan of hardware and equipment.

• Cleans, maintains, adjusts, calibrates, and services equipment used in the performance of duties to ensure optimal functionality.

• Monitors work performed by outside contractors for adherence to state and federal Code Requirements, reporting findings to supervisors as necessary.

• Assists in the writing of specifications for repairs and new construction projects to ensure compliance with standards.

• Maintains appropriate service and repair records for documentation and tracking purposes.

• Researches, purchases, and inventories equipment parts, chemicals, and supplies required for maintenance tasks.

• Responds promptly to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service to minimize downtime and maintain operational efficiency.

• Trains and oversees the work of other classified staff in the area as needed to ensure competency and adherence to standards.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent

AND

• One (1) year of related experience.

• This position requires a valid unrestricted New Mexico Driver's License.

Hours: 7:00 am to 4:00pm
