Job Details

This position is a senior counsel role within the legal team at World Courier, a subsidiary of Cencora Corporation, in its central London office. The Senior Counsel reports to the Associate General Counsel, with additional guidance and support from the World Courier General Counsel. The key focus of the role is to support the World Courier's contract negotiations, corporate governance, regulatory compliance and related activities.

Responsibilities:

The Senior Counsel is responsible for the delivery of effective legal services to the World Courier global business, including the following:

  • Draft, negotiate and advise on commercial agreements to ensure that these contracts accurately reflect World Courier's strategy and objectives and minimize exposure to legal and regulatory risk.
  • Provide support to the business on global contracting strategy, contract language review and external risk assessment.
  • Promote World Courier's legal strategy and ensure compliance with regulatory obligations as the business expands into different jurisdictions and adjacent markets/services.
  • Independently handle complex legal projects, utilizing relevant technical legal skills and provide legal advice on legal matters and issues arising, with minimal supervision
  • Represent World Courier and relevant client groups on regular business contract negotiations and other business matters, including NDAs, commercial services agreements, quality agreements, corporate governance and regulatory compliance. The Senior Counsel will often be required to play an integral part in both legal and business negotiations in these situations.
  • Demonstrate decision-making capability, in particular offering both business-oriented and legally compliant solutions to clients.
  • Manage multiple matters and effectively prioritize tasks to ensure that work is completed in a timely and efficient matter.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 to 4 years of post-qualification experience as a lawyer in the UK, an EU country or US, combined with expertise in one or more specialty areas of legal practice (ideally, commercial law with experience of drafting and negotiating commercial services agreements).

Skills and Knowledge:

  • The role requires a lawyer with strong legal skills and the ability to deliver business-oriented, effective and efficient legal services, project management, and strategic counseling on significant business or corporate matters or in a particular specialty practice area (ie commercial and contracts law).
  • The Senior Counsel role is comparable to a senior associate in a law firm and who is capable of undertaking sophisticated work as an individual contributor (with minimal guidance and oversight from their manager in most instances) and/or supervise and project manage other individual legal professionals to do the work.
  • Good working knowledge of corporate and commercial law, including contract drafting and negotiation and settlement of claims
  • Adept at handling significant legal projects, matters and issues with good to excellent technical legal skills and expertise
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Comfortable supervising external counsel and monitoring associated legal spend Excellent judgment and ability to resolve complex issues effectively
  • Ability to follow and interpret legal trends in multiple jurisdictions
  • Ability to communicate fluently and effectively in English, both orally and in writing
  • Strong interpersonal skills, negotiating skills and leadership skills
  • Strong organizational skills; attention to detail and strong presentation skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Additional language skills to a native or business fluent standard would be an advantage, given the global nature of World Courier's business.
