The Role

As an Application Security Engineer, you will play a key role in integrating security best practices into our software development and delivery processes. While the position is primarily focused on application security, you will also engage in select DevSecOps initiatives. You will work alongside development and operations teams to ensure secure, scalable, and high-quality software solutions. Your efforts will help maintain a strong security posture, drive continuous improvement, and ensure compliance with industry standards. By collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders, you will support the incorporation of security principles into product workflows, aligning security measures with overall business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct security assessments and code reviews to identify vulnerabilities in applications and services.
  • Collaborate with teams to incorporate security controls, with some involvement in secure pipelines and practices.
  • Develop and maintain security tools, frameworks, and processes that support secure coding and selected automated security testing tasks.
  • Perform dynamic scanning, penetration testing, and vulnerability assessments on web, mobile, and cloud-based applications.
  • Provide training and guidance to development and operations teams on secure coding and operations principles.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of security policies, procedures, and controls, ensuring partial integration into DevSecOps workflows.
  • Good understanding/working knowledge of the public cloud infrastructure, services, and security capabilities in Azure & AWS
  • Stay informed about emerging security threats, technologies, and best practices, applying relevant insights as needed.
  • Document systems, processes, and procedures to foster knowledge sharing and maintain compliance.

Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Security, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3+ years in a security-focused role, preferably involving application security.
  • Some exposure to integrating security measures into CI/CD pipelines and familiarity with DevOps tools and practices.
  • Understanding of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and basic experience with securing containerized environments.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
  • Working knowledge of networking concepts (DNS, load balancers, VPNs, VPCs, and access control).

Key Skills:

  • Knowledge of Secure Coding Practices:
    • Able to Understand and applying secure coding principles.
    • Familiarity with common vulnerabilities (e.g., OWASP Top Ten).
  • Collaboration and communication:
    • Ability to collaborate across teams to ensure security is integrated at various stages of the development lifecycle
  • Practical Application Security Knowledge:
    • Experience with application security tooling and basic automation supportive of DevSecOps efforts.
  • Experience in Incident Response:
    • Monitoring and responding to security incidents.
    • Providing guidance on remediation and mitigation strategies.
