At Castor, we are powering clinical trials globally by building eClinical software that's universally loved and highly rated.
Who is Castor?
Castor is a leading cloud-based clinical data platform working with some of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies, medical device companies, biopharmas, and renowned academic institutes.
We simplify the clinical trial process, from recruitment to analysis, with user-friendly, patient-centric, decentralized, and device-enabled technology. Our mission is to bring medical research into the digital age.

Castor has joined the global fight against the Coronavirus by making our research data capture system available for free for all COVID-19 research projects. Castor supports hundreds of COVID-19 studies across the world, including the World Health Organization's SOLIDARITY trial.
The Role
2020 - 2021: a defining period for Castor
In August 2020, Castor raised a Series A of $12million, led by Two Sigma Ventures with participation from Hambrecht Ducera Growth Ventures and existing investor INKEF Capital. In July 2021, Castor raised a $45million Series B, co-led by Eight Roads Ventures and F-PRIME Capital. We also launched our scalable decentralized clinical trial platform and integrated product offerings that created the foundation for Castor to realize 383% commercial growth. We now have more than 400 recurring paying customers, including a top-5 pharma company signed in Q1 2021.
2021: The year to come
Castor will make decentralized trials scale, getting the technology in the hands of as many researchers as possible. Having supported more than 7,500 studies globally, we will:
- Continue to deploy our eClinical tools to enable enrollment, screening, and consenting in a fully remote or hybrid fashion.
- Release new mobile offerings included an ePRO app for iOS and Android.
- Capitalize on our investments in data standardization, letting our first users experiment with digital twins: synthetic patients generated from metadata available from previous projects and the actual patients in the trial
How do we operate in Engineering?
Our main EDC application runs on a proven stack consisting of Ubuntu, Nginx, PHP, and MySQL. For our cloud installations, we orchestrate these setups by using Terraform combined with Ansible for server configuration management.
Due to the nature of processing medical data, we have clients in different regions across the globe, often with specific regulatory constraints around where and how their research data is stored. To meet these customer demands we combine both traditional as well as cloud-based hosting solutions.
Most of our clients prefer to run in Azure, but we're using Google Cloud Platform for things like Kubernetes hosting of greenfield projects, blob storage for scalable file upload storage and their Key Management System (KMS) to further secure our data.
For our metrics, we've begun standardizing on Prometheus and we're moving towards Loki for log aggregation. We use PagerDuty for alerting, communicate via Slack and host our code on Github.
Do you want to help bring clinical trials into the 21st century?
