The newly established Portfolio Operations team within the Associate Experience Technology (AXT) division plays a critical role in supporting 700 product, technology, and design associates. AXT itself empowers all 50,000 Capital One associates through the development of advanced technologies and customer-focused solutions.

The Portfolio Operations team is searching for a Senior Manager to assist us in evolving our existing operating routines to optimize our planning, prioritization, and delivery processes. The ideal candidate will utilize strategic thinking, cultivate cross-functional collaboration, and thrive in navigating ambiguous situations. This role presents a unique opportunity to influence our journey to a more well-managed operating model.

What you'll do:

  • Establish a strategic prioritization processes and governance forum to facilitate trade-off discussions on our top priority items.
  • Create a portfolio view of roadmaps, including health, timelines, & dependencies that provides transparency to all AX stakeholders on committed work.
  • Define PI Planning routines, templates, and tools to ensure consistency across all of AX while solving for the planning needs of both engineering and non-engineering teams.
  • Iterate on existing Jira data standards and quality requirements to ensure we have quality data to support reporting needs.
  • Establish a governance process for Jira data quality and monitoring.
  • Partner with data and tooling teams to define and implement actionable reports for senior leadership.
  • Continuously improve the operating model with a customer focus; balancing the needs of the team, portfolio, and business while aligning with industry best practices.

  • Excellent portfolio, project, and program management and organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.

  • Confident and willing to champion unpopular ideas, even with senior leadership.
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to navigate and influence the organization.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to positively drive transformational change.
  • Ability to influence others without direct authority, building consensus and gaining support for ideas and initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity, overcome challenges, and achieve desired outcomes in dynamic and fast-paced environments.
  • Dedicated to continuous improvement of project/portfolio management practices.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree or Military experience
  • At least 7 years of experience in Project Management, Process Management, or Program Management
  • At least 3 years of People Management experience
  • At least 1 year of experience using Google Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree
  • PMP, Lean, Agile or Six Sigma certification
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Strong problem solving and influencing skills
  • Demonstrated success in managing and implementing operational effectiveness and portfolio management initiatives
  • Work experience achieving results with complex projects
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, fostering a positive and productive working environment.

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $193,000 - $220,300 for Sr. Manager, Technology

Richmond, VA: $175,500 - $200,300 for Sr. Manager, Technology

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
