As a Senior Risk Manager at Capital One you'll be responsible for working with business and risk partners to identify and mitigate risks to Capital One's Commercial Bank.

As a member of the Risk Programs & Advisory team within Capital One's Commercial Risk Office, you will apply your analytical, risk management, and project management skills to support our Risk and Compliance Management Strategy. You will work with smart and passionate people to deliver results that have a direct impact on the company's risk profile. You will take on important and exciting responsibilities from day one, working with key stakeholders across the company.

Senior Risk Managers at Capital One are highly motivated Risk Management professionals that exhibit a proven track record of proactive management and governance of risk programs, decision making, and problem solving based on analytics. They have a high level of exposure across lines of business, demonstrating outstanding communication, partnership and influencing skills in order to effectively work with key stakeholders across all levels to manage, inform, and influence outcomes. As leaders, Senior Risk Managers inspire, empower and promote belonging through the leadership, coaching, and mentoring of their direct reports.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership and Execution:

    • Develop risk management strategies that will drive competitive success for Capital One in the face of shifting business and regulatory demands
    • Oversee multiple programs concurrently managing and sequencing the delivery of intent, requirements and execution against the strategy
    • Promote strategic vision and execute tactical operations to implement overarching risk assessment and risk management programs
    • Lead a team of risk professionals accountable for working across the lines of business and lines of defense to create, implement and monitor risk programs
  • Effective Partnership and Advisory:

    • Build and maintain effective partnerships with the business and teams across the company like Third Party Management, Business Continuity, Crisis Management, Compliance, Operational Risk, and Audit among others
    • Become a trusted advisor to Risk and business stakeholders, and represent the Commercial Bank for scoped risk programs
    • Partner with project stakeholders to provide risk and controls thought partnership in order to devise effective risk identification and mitigation strategies
  • Proactive Risk Management:

    • Rationalize controls focusing on key risks and alignment with risk processes
    • Influence updates to policies, standards, and control descriptions to enhance risk management activities
    • Identify ways to improve and streamline risk identification, assessment, and mitigation processes
    • Create and disseminate reporting and metrics related to the risk environment to key stakeholders and leadership
    • Prepare, coordinate, and respond to internal and external audits
    • Identify opportunities to embed risk management practices into the daily operations and business processes across the organization

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Military experience
  • At least 5 years of Risk Management or Financial Services experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in people management
  • At least 4 years of experience supporting, partnering and interacting with internal business clients

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or Master's Degree
  • At least 7 years of Risk Management experience in the Financial Services industry
  • At least 5 years of experience managing multiple projects and initiatives
  • Commercial Banking experience
  • Experience performing data analysis in support of internal risk assessments and control reviews
  • Excellent verbal presentation and written communication skills to confidently interact across the organization and with enterprise stakeholders
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical and critical thinking skills to effectively respond to shifting priorities, demands and timelines
