Senior Manager, Lead Design User Researcher - DevX
The Developer Experience Design (DevX) is currently seeking a Lead UX/UI Design (User) Researcher to join our team. In this role, you'll join a multidisciplinary team of researchers and designers whose goal is to understand and improve the day-to-day workflows of our technologists. This is an area of high impact where you will work alongside cross-functional partners in product and engineering to plan and lead user research, measure impact, and develop strategies using the latest technologies including generative AI.
We are currently seeking a Lead Design (User) Researcher to join our team to focus on strategic level research. Because we are a human centered organization obsessed with delivering products and services based on customer research and feedback, design research is at the heart of our work. We believe using empathy, curiosity and asking questions to understand our customers is core to delivering best in class products and services. We represent the voice of our customers and focus on delivering customer insights.

As the Design Research leader of our DevX (Developer Experience) organization, you are responsible for collaborating with product managers, designers, and engineers to articulate learning needs, learning agendas, and research roadmaps. You track research questions and insights within your portfolio. You are well connected to and understand the product area's strategy and needs in order to prioritize research activities including primary research, knowledge mapping, assessments, and testing. You maintain a close relationship to research leader peers across the line of business to identify opportunities to re-use learnings and collaborate on research that can serve multiple lines of business.
Responsibilities
- Research Expertise: Has a mastery of a variety of research methods, fluency in research platforms, and an ability to connect dots and accelerate learning velocity across a cross-functional portfolio.
- Human Centered: Developing deep expertise in our customers and products in order to proactively identify research opportunities that deliver meaningful, actionable insights and tracking how we influence insights-to-action.
- Business Focused: Building and maintaining trusted relationships with leaders of business, product, design, engineering leveraging data and leading high impact programs that enable business outcomes
- Problem Solving: Evaluates diverse perspectives, data-driven insights, customer & business needs to understand impact, accelerates learning and program direction to enable researcher-led and democratized research
- Leadership: Leads research projects end to end, mentors junior researchers as well as design and cross functional partners.
- Collaboration: Leverages a rich network of partnerships across lines of business and the organization to foster collaboration and share insights, incorporating cross-functional perspectives to bridge gaps in information
- Communication: Presents work across levels and job functions using a human-centered approach that integrates data and research insights to articulate a compelling point of view that influences strategic decision-making and direction at senior levels
Basic Qualifications
- At least 8 years of experience managing high-performing research/analysis teams
- At least 8 years of hands-on experience which includes: conducting quant and/or qual primary research, data analysis (survey data, behavioral analytics, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 8+ years managing high-performing research/analysis teams in large, corporate enterprises
- Exceptional business communications (verbal and written)
- Proven ability to influence senior executives
- Experience with performance management and career coaching
- Experience attracting and hiring top talent

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
New York City (Hybrid On-Site): $199,100 - $227,200 for Sr. Manager, Design
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
