Senior Director - Network Participant Risk Management
Capital One is seeking a Senior Director to lead the newly created role in the second line of defense - a Participant Risk Management oversight program within Operational Risk Management. In partnership with Network Risk Management and Third Party Risk Management. This newly created role is an exciting opportunity to establish and lead the strategic risk management framework in support of network participant relationships. It's a unique opportunity to shape the foundation and strategic development of a critical risk management function. The successful candidate will establish a network participant risk management function to deepen bank and non-bank relationships, drive governance and operational excellence globally for Capital One.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accountable for establishing and overseeing execution of the operational risk management program for the Network, Merchant, and Acquirer businesses
- Direct and oversee key enterprise operational risk management program elements with respect to the Network and Merchant businesses, including risk assessments, establishment and implementation of policies and standards, delivery of risk management training and awareness, issue management, metrics and reporting, etc
- Oversee, credibly challenge, and assess the business group environment with respect to managing and mitigating operational risk and establish processes to ensure effective and timely implementation of regulatory change requirements
- Provide reporting on the Network and Merchant business group to the Chief Operational Risk Officer, Board level committees and appropriate executive management.
- Support effective coordination of operational risk-related regulatory examinations in Network and Merchant businesses and build and maintain effective relationships with all associated regulators
- Foster an environment that ensures strong communication and cooperation across the three lines of defense and other corporate stakeholders to facilitate transparency, balance, and credible challenge
Pivotal Experience & Expertise:
- Payments Risk Experience: Possesses an understanding of existing and emerging global payment networks, regulations and risk, and responsibilities relative to third party payment processors.
- Team Leadership: Experience building, motivating and developing high-performing teams, with a track record of attracting and leading top talent.
- Regulatory Experience: Experience managing regulatory requirements in a complex finance organization and maintaining relationships with relevant regulatory bodies.
- Innovation Leadership: Experience providing creative solutions and focused on important success drivers. Experience facilitating teams to innovate, create and be open to change.
Leadership Capabilities:
- Proven success leading a team through change to elevate the culture of a function/business and drive sustained excellence
- Ability to motivate, inspire, lead, and elevate a large, geographically dispersed organization, with or without direct authority
- Highly collaborative, energetic, results-oriented, and entrepreneurial in nature
- Approaches risk management with a forward lean and an orientation towards data-driven analysis and innovation
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or military experience
- At least 9 years of experience in third party risk or risk governance oversight
- At least 8 years of people management experience
- At least 6 years of experience in project or program management
- At least 2 years of compliance or legal oversight experience with a payments network or merchant services
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree or Juris Doctor
- Experience working for a company that operates a payment network
- Risk management certification (Certified Third-Party Risk Professional (CTPRP))

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
Chicago, IL: $212,800 - $242,800 for Sr. Director, Risk Management
McLean, VA: $234,000 - $267,100 for Sr. Director, Risk Management
Richmond, VA: $212,800 - $242,800 for Sr. Director, Risk Management
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
