Second Line Risk Advisor - Data Management (Principal Associate)
As a Second Line Risk Advisor - Data Management (Principal Associate) in Capital One's Enterprise Data Risk Management (EDRM) team, you will apply your risk management, analytical, data governance, and process management expertise to assess and challenge the organization's data management practices. In this role, you will collaborate with first-line stakeholders and your EDRM team to review data management controls, practices, testing outcomes, and reporting, ensuring that data risks are adequately identified, managed, and mitigated.
You will proactively source and leverage a wide range of analytical insights to develop grounded recommendations related to data risk. Working closely with your team, you will help shape these insights into actionable challenges and ensure they align with Capital One's risk appetite.

As a 2nd Line Risk Advisor, you are highly motivated to engage in effective challenge, bringing your risk management acumen to influence decisions, weigh in on remediation plans, and overall strengthening of data governance. You are a proactive learner who seeks to understand evolving data risk landscapes and advise your partners and teammates on potential risks. You will operate with strong project, process, and analytical skills, ensuring risk management best practices are upheld across the enterprise. Key Responsibilities:
- Continuously dive deep into reporting, metrics, and other sources of data to contribute to the shared understanding of the current state of data management risk across the organization.
- Identify and analyze changes, events, patterns, or trends that merit additional attention, and collaborate with SMEs to develop grounded and actionable recommendations.
- Use analytical skills to conduct regular risk assessments, reviewing data management controls and assessing what has changed/what needs to change to adequately manage data risk.
- Perform gap assessments and create recommendations to ensure alignment and progress toward compliance with enterprise data management standards.
- Support the Data Risk Advisory team with process management, including running standups, tracking ongoing risk challenges, and providing regular updates to key stakeholders.
- Demonstrate strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and influencing skills across various levels of the organization.
- Stay current on data risk management strategies, requirements, and industry trends to ensure effective risk oversight and compliance.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or military experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in a second-line risk management role, or At least 3 years of experience in data risk management, or data governance
- At least 2 years of experience managing data risk processes or controls
Preferred Qualifications:
- 4+ years of experience in risk management within the financial services industry
- 4+ years of experience in a data risk management or data governance role
- 2+ years of experience governing metadata and data quality
