The Platforms Well Managed team provides a strategically positioned offense, designed to strengthen Platforms "well managed" muscles and fuel sustainable innovation by offering centralized support across multiple dimensions of risk mitigation activities including Event & Issue Management, Control Execution and other Horizontal Risk Services.

As a Risk Manager supporting Event & Issue Management, you will provide leadership to a talented team of individuals who provide dynamic risk-centered solutions, guiding various Platform, Process & Product business partners through the discovery, containment and recovery of breakdowns. You'll have an opportunity to contribute to exciting work that will make a difference, driving sustainable solutions for process excellence and risk prevention/mitigation in pursuit of better managed outcomes and frictionless customer experiences.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide direct people management and talent development to a team of high performing risk event managers
  • Provide leadership for Event & Issue Management through established processes and standards to mitigate risk to company and ensure optimal customer recovery
  • Supplement team strength by supporting event-related complex research and problem solving
  • Partner with Legal and Compliance to deeply understand exposure from breakdowns to provide guidance to the business
  • Guide root cause analysis to ensure the breakdown is fully understood to influence sustainable containment plans in order to prevent similar future breakdowns
  • Drive prioritization recommendations, understanding and /articulating appropriate trade-offs
  • Coordinate, influence and negotiate priorities with partner dependencies to ensure event goals/timelines are met; escalating when appropriate
  • Streamline interactions with the business related to breakdown enhancement, event progress and process improvement opportunities
  • Training and development of team and others as necessary
  • Creation of effective metrics and reporting required to communicate performance and information to broad audiences
  • Establishing strong interaction models and relationships to collaborate with key stakeholders, ensuring delivery of commitments

A successful candidate will have:

  • Deep understanding of Capital One Enterprise Risk Management Standards, tools, playbooks and systems to document the risk and resolution as required
  • Demonstrated outstanding communication
  • Strong desire to lead others through direct people management and/or indirect leadership of teammates and project partners
  • Transformational leadership skills with a focus on driving inclusion and belonging as well as the ability to build and leverage the capabilities of a high-performing team
  • Relationship and collaboration skills necessary for interacting with key stakeholders at all levels across the company to manage and influence outcomes
  • Strong judgment and critical thinking skills
  • Process and project management experience with excellent organization and planning skills
  • Capacity to deliver quality work, multi-task, and focus on priorities in a dynamic environment

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • At least 3 years of Operations, Financial Services Compliance or Risk Management experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in Process Management or Project Management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Military Service equivalent
  • 5+ years of related operations management or risk management experience
  • 5+ years of direct people management
  • Experience as a Risk Event and Issue Manager/Lead
  • Project Management certification
  • Process management training (e.g. Six Sigma, BPM, etc.)
  • Strong problem identification, resolution and analytical abilities
  • Experience in management of multiple projects concurrently in an autonomous environment
  • Subject matter expert in designated risk methodologies and corporate risk practices
