Risk Manager, Corporate Banking Risk Advisory Team

The Commercial Risk Team supports risk management with the lines of business. Its Risk Advisors are accountable for supporting the business in successfully managing all facets of risk by providing critical services and expertise. This associate will assist the Risk Advisors in their day-to-day activities in managing non-credit risk for the Corporate Banking line of business within Commercial Banking. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work autonomously, flexibility in managing changing priorities in an Agile framework, and a desire to help the Commercial Bank succeed. Strong problem solving, integrative thinking, prioritization, and communication skills are essential for success in this role.

The Role:
As a member of the Corporate Banking Risk Advisory Team (within Commercial Risk), you'll be challenged to deliver the risk mitigation strategy for this diverse organization. You'll work with various stakeholders, within the lines of business and partner organizations, to evaluate and manage risks, and strengthen the control environment, effectively reducing the business' overall risk profile while building lasting partnerships.
Departmental functions include: direct business engagement and support, policies and procedures, training and awareness, operational risk framework, process identification and standards, control monitoring and testing, operational risk reporting, issue and event management, business continuity management, information security, third party management, risk identification, assessment, mitigation and reporting. Commercial Risk interacts with internal and external partners for internal and external audits, Regulatory exams and compliance assessments. We are the first point of contact for all second line operational risk management including business continuity, third party management, data governance, information security, access management, and model governance.
Risk Managers at Capital One are highly motivated Risk Management professionals with excellent organizational and communication skills. They have a high level of exposure across lines of business and have the opportunity to work with Executives to create and implement innovative solutions to identify and mitigate potential risks to the Company.
Responsibilities:
- Business Engagement - closely and regularly engage with the Line of Business in transaction risk evaluation support, Risk process guidance and facilitation, and providing general Policy and Regulatory advice as needed
- Team Support - Create capacity for Risk Advisors with ad-hoc and routine deliverables, audits/exams, and investigations
- Risk Intelligence - Develop, enhance and manage core and ad hoc business risk reporting
- Execute - Manage, implement and deliver on a subset of the program deliverables including drafting communications, writing and editing policies, procedures, business continuity plans, audit remediation responses, etc.
- Change Management - Drive change control efforts at the process level to ensure impacts are appropriately assessed, documented, socialized and implemented
- Facilitate and Support Enterprise Risk Processes - Drive required horizontal efforts (risk assessments, change management, policy governance, risk identification, audits/exams) within the Corporate Banking vertical lines of business
- Corrective Action - Identify and manage events and issues to mitigate risk to Capital One. Coordinate with applicable business areas to design and implement remediation plans
- Relationship Management - Develop and leverage key relationships with stakeholders that enable collaboration across the enterprise and add value and optimize efficiency for leaders
- Control Design & Monitoring - Design and implement controls to mitigate risks within business processes
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or military experience
- At least 2 years of experience managing cross functional projects and programs
- At least 3 years of Risk Management experience either directly as a risk manager or through partnership working with a risk team
- At least 3 years of financial services experience
- At least 3 years of experience supporting, partnering and interacting with internal operations or business clients
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years of exposure to Commercial Banking
- 2+ years of experience with data and reporting tools (i.e. Tableau, SQL, Python, etc.)
- Risk or compliance certification (i.e. ACAMS, GARP FRM, etc.)
