Distinguished Engineer - Enterprise Search and Knowledge Management

Distinguished Engineers are expected to lead through technical contribution. You will operate as a trusted advisor for our key technologies, platforms and capability domains, creating clear and concise communications, code samples, blog posts and other material to share knowledge both inside and outside the organization. You will specialize in a particular subject area, but your input and impact will be sought and expected throughout the organization.

In this role, you will work with our Enterprise Search and Knowledge Management team to provide deep technical expertise for Enterprise Search, 3rd Party Platform Management and Integrations (Google Product Suite, GCP, Vertex AI), and designing large scale migrations into the Google Platform. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of how 3rd Party Platforms integrate and interact with large scale systems within a large, regulated enterprise environment. Additionally, you will provide mentorship and strategic guidance to our engineer, product, and leadership groups.

Key responsibilities:
- Articulate and evangelize a bold technical vision for Enterprise Search and Knowledge Management
- Architect and design an advanced enterprise search system leveraging the latest in AI and Machine Learning
- Lead the development and integration of generative AI technologies into our 3rd Party Product Suite
- Collaborate with product management, Architecture, and Engineering teams to define and implement data-driven strategic roadmaps with a focus on third party platform integrations
- Provide technical leadership to platform engineers, product managers, and all other stakeholders leveraging a deep understanding of Google product suite and Google Cloud Platform
- Provide strategic consultation on management and application deployment in Azure and GCP
- Ensure the quality of technical design and implementation
- Serve as an authoritative expert on non-functional system characteristics, such as performance, scalability and operability
- Continue learning and injecting advanced technical knowledge into our community
- Handle several projects simultaneously, balancing your time to maximize impact
- Act as a role model and mentor within the tech community, helping to coach and strengthen the technical expertise and know-how of our engineering and product community
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- At least 7 years of experience in software engineering
- At least 4 years of experience in Cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)
- At least 2 years of experience with GCP Services, architecture, and management
- At least 3 years of experience with Enterprise Search systems
- At least 3 years of experience designing and implementing large-scale, distributed systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's or PhD Degree in Computer Science or a related field
- 10+ years of professional experience coding in commonly used languages like Java, Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, Swift, etc.
- 7+ years of experience in Software OR Platform engineering with a focus on search technologies, 3rd Party platform integration, and Cloud implementations
- 7+ years of contributions to open-source projects or research publications in relevant fields
- 5+ years of experience with Knowledge Graphs and semantic search technologies
- 5+ years of experience with Machine Learning (NLP)
- 5+ years of experience with patents or innovative solutions in search or data science fields
- 5+ years of experience with Information retrieval and text analytics

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
New York City (Hybrid On-Site): $274,800 - $313,600 for Distinguished Engineer
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
