About the Role:
The Capital One Corporate Communications team is looking for a creative, strategic and results driven communications professional to join a growing group of Communications experts. Our team is focused on delivering cutting-edge communications solutions to address real-world business challenges. As a key member of the Card PR team, you will manage external communications programs that amplify Capital One's premium credit card and the benefits associated with it. Ultimately you will be responsible for contributing to growth in awareness of Capital One's premium X, inclusive of our premium product (Venture X), along with our travel, dining, concierge and entertainment offerings. In this role you will serve as a leader on the Card PR team, collaborating with internal partners, as well as external agencies and partners, to develop and implement creative, high-impact, integrated programming that drives awareness and shifts perception among key target audiences.
This position requires exceptional leadership, judgment, teamwork, and results focus. An open mind and a passion for finding creative new ways to solve problems and deliver results are essential to the success of this role. Adaptability and a sense of humor will also serve you well.
Primary Responsibilities:
Serve as a Strategic Counselor and Lead Integrator
- Provide communications-related counsel to a range of Business, Marketing and Brand partners, including executives and peers
- Identify, build and maintain effective relationships with partners across the enterprise, including members of the brand marketing, data/insights, product and teams
- Proactively collaborate with partners across the team and larger organization with the goal of driving creative, streamlined and connected programming
- Serve as the External Communications lead on integrated teams, guiding overall workflow and identifying opportunity for process improvement
- Push the team's thinking, surfacing new trend-based ideas, securing buy-in and operationalizing them
- Deeply understand the business you are supporting and leverage this knowledge to inform your approach to day-to-day work
- Use judgment to navigate complex situations, ultimately contributing to reputation building
Lead Strategic Planning and Execution
- Serve as a lead on the Card PR team for strategic planning; guide the team to develop insights-based plans that introduce new ideas and set us up to deliver on goals
- Oversee the execution of programming that drives toward communications, marketing and business objectives
- Collaborate closely with external partners and PR agencies to execute creative programming and deliver results at scale
- Identify opportunities to enhance media relations efforts, leveraging expertise and reporter relationships to drive increased coverage in priority outlets across luxury, lifestyle and business verticals
- Introduce creative and new solutions to business challenges; push the PR and partner teams to test new approaches
- Stay abreast of industry trends, share insights and identify opportunities to apply them to ongoing work, both for PR and beyond
Act as a Key Leader on the Card team
- Identify opportunities to shift ways of working, ultimately driving efficiencies and enhancing results
- Contribute to team operational excellence by overseeing budget management, prioritization of work, agency relations, development of best practices, etc.
- Constantly collaborate with leaders across the Card PR team, as well as Corporate Communications and External Affairs to deliver integrated programming
- Serve as a people leader and mentor
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or military experience
- At least ten years of communications experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience working in an integrated marketing and communications environment
- 5+ years of experience in PR, working with or for travel,, luxury goods, fashion, beauty, hospitality or entertainment industries
- 4+ years of media relations experience

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
New York City (Hybrid On-Site): $181,900 - $207,600 for Director, Communications
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
