Situated within Commercial Credit Risk and Analytics, the Commercial Loss Forecasting team is responsible for projecting loan losses (net charge-offs) on Capital One's ~$120 billion portfolio of Commercial loans. The team synthesizes quantitative and qualitative information on portfolio credit quality through the use of statistical models and the analysis of portfolio, market, and economic trends. The ultimate product is a forecast that distills this broad set of information into holistic measures of the most important credit risks for the Commercial Bank. The team's key deliverables include setting the quarterly Allowance for Credit Loss, running annual regulatory stress testing exercises (CCAR), and setting the internal budget for net charge-offs.

As a Director Business Analysis at Capital One, you will apply your strategic and analytical skills to major company challenges. As the lead for Emerging Risk Analytics you will be responsible for the development, analysis, and reporting of the Commercial Bank's Emerging Risk Analytical Capabilities. These analyses will focus on estimating the credit risk impacts on a variety of emerging risks across the Capital One commercial portfolio. For example, the team is currently focused on developing a series of Climate Scenario Analysis capabilities across a variety of climate scenarios (e.g., Transition Risks, Physical Risks). More broadly, the team's responsibilities include estimating credit risk impacts on emerging risks across a variety of industries in the Corporate Bank and property types across the Commercial Real Estate for use in loss forecasting, credit decisioning, and strategic portfolio management activities.

General Responsibilities include:

  • Strategic leadership: Designing and developing an end-to-end analysis of credit risk impacts across various emerging risks (e.g., climate scenario analysis, industry secular disruptions, and more.)
  • Team leadership: May hire, manage, and lead a team of analysts. Coaching and mentoring associates with a goal of developing and retaining talent at Capital One.
  • Execution: Regularly executing scenario analyses while integrating with existing Risk Rating (PD, LGD, EAD), CECL, and CCAR systems
  • Analytic orientation: Balancing strategic leadership with analytic problem-solving (e.g., strategic leadership must be complemented by a strong data and quantitative analytics)
  • Partnership: Work closely with a wide variety of stakeholders to strengthen the overall emerging risk analysis including:

    • Underwriters and Credit Officers to understand sector- and borrower-level risk drivers
    • Enterprise Risk Management to coordinate scope of emerging risk responsibilities
    • Quantitative analysts to design credit modeling systems
    • Effective challenger and oversight functions (e.g., Model Risk Office, Capital Risk Oversight, and more) to strengthen the overall framework
  • Strong executive communication skills: Communicating and reviewing results with the most senior leaders and Board of Directors at Capital One

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 7 years of experience in analysis

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree
  • 2+ years of experience in financial services
  • 1+ year of experience in consulting
  • 3+ years of experience in people management
