The Global Stewardship and Engagement (GSE) team is responsible for several key areas of Capital Group's delivery of our fiduciary obligations related to proxy, governance and long-term value creation. Based at our headquarters in Los Angeles, the group is seeking a Senior Manager to lead US-based members of a global team. The role has player/coach responsibilities to both model personally, and coach direct reports on::

Proxy Voting - Creating and evolving internal and external proxy guidance in collaboration with our investors. This guidance is combined with deep company research by the GSE team and results in proxy recommendations for our investors to review.

Governance Research - Conducting research on governance matters, in partnership with investors, to inform our approach to key proxy and corporate governance issues.

Partnership with investors - Building strong relationship with investment professionals via annual preseason training, post season debriefs and shared work; collaborating to engage with companies on corporate governance practices.

"I can succeed as a Senior Manager in the Global Stewardship & Engagement team"

You will represent the US perspective on the GSE Leadership team, serving as an expert on corporate governance topics and leading and overseeing the team's research approach and output. You'll take responsibility for ensuring quality proxy research with a process of continuous improvement, including having your own defined coverage area.

You will oversee year-round team publication of high-quality investment-relevant governance research, modeling examples for the team via individual publication, and coaching others.

Manage the team in day-to-day activities and in long-term development, cultivating a growth mindset, high standards of excellence and responsiveness to partners.

Through the team's various points of collaboration and input, you'll ensure that the US proxy team has deep relationships with our Investment Group members

Provide input into external Proxy and Stewardship reporting including some client and regulatory reporting, and quasi-regulatory obligations such as like PRI and UK Stewardship Code.

Partnering with the Head of Engagement, ensure high quality and effective engagement with investee companies on corporate governance topics

Lead and represent Capital Group's perspective in initiatives and business matters with various external stakeholders. You'll stay current with industry and regulatory trends ensuring that the team evolves their processes and practices in response.

Contribute to the development of relevant corporate governance tools (e.g., compensation methodology and dashboards).

  • You have deep Corporate Governance expertise, with at least 10 years' relevant experience, including time working directly with active investors focused on long-term value creation. Your technical understanding is likely underpinned with an MBA, CFA or equivalent qualifications.
  • You have direct experience with all aspects of proxy voting, and an insightful perspective on evolving US regulatory, client and stakeholder expectations. You maintain a strong and current understanding of US corporate governance trends through interacting with industry peers and have developed your knowledge of asset owner perspectives on governance via your interactions with internal and external clients.
  • You have a demonstrable track record of engagement with US-based investee companies at senior levels.
  • Producing original research and analysis on corporate governance topics, and coaching others in this area is likely a core aspect of your current or prior responsibilities.
  • You have a passion for developing team members and can point to experience managing groups of varying sizes in relevant contexts.

Southern California Base Salary Range: $171,968-$292,346

New York Base Salary Range: $182,310-$309,927

In addition to a highly competitive base salary, per plan guidelines, restrictions and vesting requirements, you also will be eligible for an individual annual performance bonus, plus Capital's annual profitability bonus plus a retirement plan where Capital contributes 15% of your eligible earnings.
