Role summary

Primarily to work with the investment teams to interpret, implement and oversee implementation of investment and derivatives regulations in the APAC region and analysis and approval of wall crossing requests. In addition, provide expertise and support to the Global ex US fund registration team and lead the compliance monitoring program for APAC.

Every person within the APAC Legal & Compliance (L&C) team is responsible for legal, regulatory, and compliance work and is expected to work with other associates across multiple jurisdictions. The precise requirements of the role will develop over time in response to changing needs of the business, however, we would expect the successful candidate to have the following main responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities/essential functions

  • Be knowledgeable about and track developments related to the requirements of applicable derivatives rules and regulations, including any reporting requirements, for Capital Group ('Capital') accounts and operating entities in APAC and how they apply to Capital. Associate will take primary responsibility for oversight of compliance with any such derivatives rules and regulations.
  • Oversight and coordination of client onboarding and ongoing servicing for derivatives matters in APAC.
  • Act as the primary derivatives contact for Europe and Asia Client Group and product development teams in APAC (e.g., coordinating/escalating derivatives support among various operations and investment group teams for new instruments to be launched in the region and/or for client-specific derivatives requests).
  • Analyze and approve wall crossing requests from sell-side brokers.
  • Assess new product related regulations, laws and trends and their applicability and implementation to CG funds in APAC.
  • Establish, develop external networks with industry associations and with regulatory authorities to gather intelligence and advise the business of relevant developments.
  • Process new registration of Funds and Share Classes including active contribution to Funds related project at APAC level.
  • Ongoing maintenance of fund registrations outside of the US, including preparation and provision of necessary documentation (i.e., prospectus update), publications and interaction, directly or indirectly, with local counsel, external service providers and relevant authorities.
  • Research, analyze and communicate the requirements pertaining to the promotion of funds in various jurisdictions in support of business objectives and marketing activities.
  • Maintain a compliance monitoring plan which enables the Compliance team to assess whether the processes and controls in place are appropriately designed and operating effectively and efficiently to mitigate compliance risks to an acceptable level for Capital Europe and APAC.
  • Assist, support and advise Management and Boards in fulfilling their compliance responsibilities. This is achieved by identifying and reporting the key and emerging risks and deficiencies identified during compliance monitoring activities.
  • Assisting other team members to support the need of internal business departments with responses to queries or troubleshooting issues.
  • Assisting on interactions with attorneys, external counsel, and regulators on various issues with a focus on proposing and implementing changes or enhancements to business processes.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as assigned.

Skills/qualifications

  • Ideal candidate will have some familiarity/experience with derivative trading agreements and compliance and/or how Capital utilizes derivatives.
  • Excellent relationship and influencing skills with the ability to remain impartial and independent in your views.
  • A curious and enquiring mindset, willing to listen to the perspectives of others. Will seek to uncover real and important differences of opinion. Will challenge the status quo.
  • Good understanding and experience of the European and Global investment management regulatory environment.

Core requirements:

  • Degree / 10+ years of asset management experience.
  • Able to speak, draft and work in English; Chinese language spoken and written will be highly regarded.

In addition to a highly competitive base salary, per plan guidelines, restrictions and vesting requirements, you also will be eligible for an individual annual performance bonus, plus Capital's annual profitability bonus plus a retirement plan where Capital contributes 15% of your eligible earnings.
