Job Description:

The Design System Engineer plays a pivotal role in ensuring seamless interactions between components and subsystems of the Driveline System. Acting as a liaison between the Chief Engineering team and the Product Release Center, this position emphasizes encouraging collaboration within a diverse, multi-functional team environment. The role requires working closely with the Chief Engineer across multiple programs, driving innovation and inclusive problem-solving to deliver robust and efficient system solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Schedule hardware system design reviews with multi-functional teams and review design proposals as required.
  • Coordinate reviews with the Virtual Analysis/CAE team and ensure completion of the Virtual DVP/Scorecard before placing any orders for prototype hardware.
  • Lead Driveline System and Interface DFMEA / DRBFM (team) reviews to ensure complete clarity and development of cohesive Design Controls leading to Robust DVP Actions
  • Support Chief & Assistant Chief to develop Cost Roll-ups for Minor/MCA/ New Programs
  • Review and approve all change notices ensuring checklists, LL, and E-BPs are updated and aligned.
  • Lead Technical Cost Reductions (TCRs) / Value Optimization (VO) effort.
  • Manage the "lessons learned" document for the program on behalf of the Chief Engineer and ensure timely updates are provided to Technical Specialists.
  • Review Driveline system and applicable component "Validation Completion" status with DV team periodically & provides updates to the Chief Engineer.
  • Coordinate DRBTR review and follow-up on open items.
  • Lead Quality and Warranty improvement actions.

Required skills:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred).
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Driveline or Powertrain components with OEM and/or tier 1/2 supplier.
  • Demonstrated solid understanding of Powertrain / Engine / Transmission operation and components.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Some travel required to Supplier and Vehicle Assembly Plants -- including Canada & Mexico.
  • Comprehensive understanding: Efficiency tools from Google and Microsoft.
  • Extensive knowledge: Efficiency software from Google and Microsoft.
  • The candidate should feel at ease in the corporate office environment and be mindful of the level of integrity that is encouraged.
  • Experience with Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
  • Experience with Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R)
  • High level of proficiency in English (speaking, reading, writing)

Optional skills:

  • Green/black belt in Shainin or DFSS desirable.
  • CAE/CFD experiences on Powertrain structures.
  • Hands-on involvement in the repair/modification of a vehicle or other technically complex project.
