Job description:

The AS400 DB2 DBA Administrator is responsible for the administration, maintenance, and performance tuning of DB2 databases on AS400 systems. This role ensures the reliability, security, and efficiency of the database environment, supporting business-critical applications and data management processes.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in DB2 database administration and AS400 systems.

Continuously analyze and improve system and database performance.
Monitor active jobs and identify long-running or resource-intensive queries, then optimize their SQL by working with Application Team. Pinpoint on queries which needs Indexes and Assist application team with Index creation for better Query performance.
Proactive System Diagnostics

Perform in-depth diagnostics to prevent system disruptions.
Use tools like iDoctor to analyze real-time data about CPU, disk, memory, and job performance, identifying underperforming resources.

Database Monitoring and Maintenance

Monitor database health and take corrective action to ensure stability.
Monitor job activity collects detailed metrics like CPU, memory, and I/O usage.
Assist in pinpointing inefficient queries and database locks.
Setup and Review SQL Plan Cache

Ensure that frequently performed queries benefit from reusable execution plans. Diagnose and resolve performance problems caused by inefficient execution plans.
Performance Data Collection and Reporting
Gather performance metrics and deliver actionable insights.
Schedule regular performance data collection and present findings to Application Teams, Admin Teams and provide recommendations for memory upgrades or workload redistribution.
Capacity structuring

Use historical and predictive data to plan for future growth.
Generate forecasts to anticipate storage needs based on usage trends over the last 12 months.
Incident Solve

Work on Role based access controls for schemas across the Database.Protect sensitive data. Ensure database operations stay in sync with security requirements.

Required Skills:
Quickly diagnose and resolve performance issues.
Perform root cause analysis on a sudden spike in CPU, Response Time and pinpoint application-level issue.
Database and System Performance Audits

Conduct audits to ensure optimal system performance and compliance.
Conduct a detailed CPU utilization audit, ensuring the system meets performance standards.
Security Administration

Desired Skills:
Proficiency in DB2 database administration.
Strong knowledge of AS400 system administration.
Experience with database performance tuning and optimization.
Familiarity with backup and recovery processes.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Good communication and documentation skills.
