Location: Vancouver - hybrid

Reporting to: Medical Director

Job status: PermanentFull-time 1.0 FTE (75 hours bi-weekly)

Compensation: $60,000 - $70,000

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Medical Director, the Statistician and HealthCare Researcher undertakes responsibilities for data management, ensuring dataintegrity, conducts statistical analysis for program planning and supportsresearch activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Statistics
• Responsible for data management. Works with the raw data tobuild analyzable datasets (cleaning, compiling and variable assembly).
• Conducts statistical analysis, and produces outputs includingtables and figures for manuscripts. Collaborates with other team members tohelp them move their projects forward using population-based administrativedata.
• Liaises with the data stewards and PopData BC to access,maintain, and analyze highly secure data. Completing and filing data amendmentrequests as directed.
• Collaborates with data scientists at other institutions tosupport data collection, analysis and reporting relevant to CPCH projects.

HeathCare Research
• Attends meetings to define strategies, goals and scope ofresearch projects.
• Reports on project progress in research, evaluation andknowledge translation.
• As part of the Canuck Place Research Initiative, collaborateswith BC Children's Hospital based researchers in Pediatric Palliative Care.Joins lab meetings, contributes to ideas, and provides material support forprojects.
• May support research design and methodology for assignedprojects by researching the assigned topic; determining appropriate andavailable resources; participating in determining the data required; developingmonitoring and modifying systems/tools for collection; verification andreporting of data.
• Assists with UBC research ethics applications, and monitoringcompliance with ethics and privacy requirements.
• Tracks and prepares the annual research for report to theResearch Advisory Council.
• Facilitates knowledge dissemination of research projects byorganizing education sessions and coordinating with the Education Committeeand/or Nurse Educator.
• Participates in drafting reports, manuscripts, abstracts,presentations and other knowledge dissemination activities. Collaborates withlocal, national and international colleagues.
• May support the Research Initiative by preparing draftagendas for meetings, taking and distributing minutes, bringing forward items,researching and compiling information as requested.
Program Evaluation

• Works with the Program Business Analyst in helping to meetthe strategic priorities of providing quality palliative care, research andknowledge dissemination/education and extension of services. This assistance will be provided at thedirection of the Medical Director and will mostly be in advanced data analysisand interpretation.
• Perform other related duties, as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Master's degree or above in Health, Statistics, Research,Psychology, Education, or a related field.
• A minimum of three years recent related experience inresearch and analysis; or an equivalent combination of education, experienceand training.

QUALIFICATIONS

What youbring to the role:
• Evidence of quantitative health research experience
• Evidence of understanding of qualitative health research
• Ability to collect, extract, organize, analyse, summarize andinterpret numerical data
• Ability to present results, conclusions and recommendationsin graphic and written form
• Evidence of superior understanding of statistics
• Evidence of a solid understanding of programming languagefundamentals.
• Evidence of advanced proficiency with SAS. Proficiency withSQL, Python, C++ an asset
• Knowledge of ethics review board and privacy requirements
• Experience using PopData BC's Secure Research Environmentwould be an asset
• Excellent project management, teamwork, organizational andinterpersonal skills
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
• Ability to work diplomatically and persuasively and establishand maintain effective working relationships with various groups at all levels
• Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities
• High level of attention to detail and accuracy
• Proven problem solving, analytical and decision making skills
• Ability to prioritize work and work under pressure
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office softwareapplication

• Flexibilityis necessary, as this position may require occasional weekend and evening workand travel within and outside the Lower Mainland.
