Reporting to: Camp Director and Camp Nurse

Job status: Temporary 5 day position

Start Date: April 7th,2025 at 12:00pm

End Date: April 11th,2025 at 12:00pm

Compensation: $160 per day

JOB SUMMARY

Canuck Place Children's Hospice provides specialized pediatricpalliative care to children / teens and their families, from across BC, free ofcharge. Canuck Place Family Camp provides families with a fun, caring andnormal childhood experience. Those who attend these camps are there to receiverespite care and typically, none who are attending camp are in an active phaseof end of life care.

Under the direct supervision of the Camp Director (Canuck Place'sRecreation Therapy Coordinator) and Camp Nurse (Canuck Place employed RN), theCamp Counsellor is expected to provide direct care to children and teensattending Canuck Place's Family Camp. "Care” includes ADLs like toileting,bathing, feeding and dressing as well as providing assistance for participationin recreational activities at camp. Canuck Place nursing staff provide allother aspects of care such as medication administration, enteral feeding,seizure management and other complex care measures

RESPONSIBILITIES
• A) Assist in getting eachchild up and ready for the days activities, such as dressing and toiletingaccording to their care plan. Mechanical lifts may be used.
• B) Assessing child's interests and comfort throughoutthe day as needed while collaborating with the camp counsellor team and nursingteam. Reporting concerns or needs to the nursing team as needed
• C) Participating in various camp activitieswith the children in a safe, compassionate manner

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Minimumexpected completion of Personal Care Aide training and / or equivalent work experienceor other training (Nursing students above 2nd year) which is relevant.
• Experiencewith pediatrics is an asset but not mandatory

QUALIFICATIONS

You have:

• Excellent time management skills.
• Demonstrates flexibility that allows you to workwith high energy, creative people.
• Able to thrive and effectively manage prioritiesin a changing, ambiguous environment.
• Current CPR training
