Accounting at Brex
The Accounting team at Brex ensures that we have perfect financial reporting, but even more so, we serve as beta testers and power users of Brex’s financial products, providing analysis and feedback prior to product releases. Not only are we responsible for maintaining accurate books and records, we are also deeply passionate about automation and partner closely with the Engineering team to implement technological improvements.
What you’ll do
The Accounting Manager will play a key role in ensuring the integrity of our financial records and in developing scalable and sustainable processes as the business grows. The scope of this role encompasses the accounting for payroll and benefits across all jurisdictions. It requires close collaboration with the Payroll team, whose primary responsibility is to ensure employees are paid timely and in compliance with local laws. Your responsibility is to ensure the books and records are accurately reflected. You will also work cross-functionally with the People and Benefits teams where creative problem solving and attention to detail are highly valued. The Accounting Manager is expected to manage multiple priorities concurrently without compromising quality, accuracy or completeness.
Where you’ll work
This role will be based in our New York City office. You must be willing to work in office at least 2 days per week on Wednesday and Thursday. Employees will be able to work remotely for up to 4 weeks per year.
Responsibilities
- Ownership of the end-to-end accounting processes, reconciliations, policies and activities related to compensation accounting for all jurisdictions (US, Canada, Brazil, UK, NL)
- Ownership of expense allocation and variance analysis to support management reporting, and other areas including internal use software capitalization
- Identify and lead process improvement initiatives, including the implementation of reconciliations, system integrations, and automation opportunities to support the Company’s IPO readiness effort
- Influence the Company’s benefits strategies and support the accounting for related programs
- Ensure timely close through the preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations and variance analytics, as well as coordination with FP&A
- Create sustainable, repeatable and scalable processes, including the review and update of process documentation
Requirements
- College graduate with a 4-year degree in Accounting or related field
- 4+ years of public accounting and/or private industry experience
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and address difficult situations in a professional manner
- Innovative and able to provide “outside of the box” solutions
- Passion for having an owner’s mentality towards responsibilities and for career growth
- Experience implementing and improving business processes and systems
- Talented and highly motivated with a self-starter mentality
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage deadlines effectively
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
- Effective verbal, listening, and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets
Bonus Points
- Licensed CPA
- A combination of public accounting and private industry experience
- International accounting experience
- Familiarity with Netsuite and Workday
- Knowledge of wage and hour laws or experience in payroll processing
Compensation
The expected salary range for this role is $124,752 USD - $155,940 USD However, the starting base pay will depend on a number of factors including the candidate’s location, skills, experience, market demands, and internal pay parity. Depending on the position offered, equity and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package.
