WHY BOX NEEDS YOU

As a Software Engineer on the Observability team, you'll collaborate to solve complex business challenges, from strategy to execution. You'll drive technical advocacy, build user and developer communities, and influence service owners to enhance Observability platform capabilities.

You'll engage team members on coding practices, architecture, and design, diving into complex integrated systems. By staying current with industry trends, you'll lead strategic changes in tools and processes, ensuring we adopt new techniques effectively. Your role involves questioning assumptions, challenging the status quo, and driving continuous improvement. You'll also champion data governance and ensure our architecture is scalable and future-proof.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • You will work on a distributed, high-performance observability data pipeline to collect, transform and route metrics and traces to various storage solution.
  • You will use Open Telemetry and GCP cloud-native solutions to create pipelines.
  • Design, develop, and implement end-to-end data pipeline solutions that transform and process terabytes of structured and unstructured data in real-time, scaling across a growing number of data sources.
  • You will build an event driven system that utilizes data messaging technologies for streaming analytics and data integration pipelines to ingest and distribute data.
  • You will work on various cloud orchestration (Terraform) and configuration management (Puppet, Ansible) technologies to ensure efficient deployment of observability solution in Kubernetes clusters in GCP.
  • Improve the reliability, latency, availability, and scalability of observability solutions in all areas of metrics and distributed tracing.

WHO YOU ARE
  • 2+ years of Software Engineering experience building and maintaining Petabyte Scale Data Platforms.
  • Good understanding of distributed data processing and management frameworks (like Apache Spark, Apache Beam, Apache Flink etc.) deployed in managed services like GCP Dataflow.
  • Experience building and running observability infrastructure on a large scale in the areas of logging using technologies like Splunk, BigQuery / search, metrics with Chronosphere/Prometheus and distributed tracing with OpenTelemetry.
  • Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), cloud orchestration technologies (e.g., Terraform), data messaging technologies (e.g., GCP Pub/Sub, Kafka) and configuration management/software delivery platforms (e.g. Puppet, Chef, Ansible).
  • Advanced experience in writing software in Object-Oriented Languages, preferably Java (but if you have only Java-basics, and you're using other languages like Scala, Go or Python - should be fine).
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Compute Engineering, or related field.
