WHY BOX NEEDS YOU

Box is looking for a Senior Staff Architect to join the Conversion Team. The Conversion Team (as part of the Box Storage Platform) has a charter to design, build, and maintain services relating to the processing of customer content and the creation of representations. These representations are at the heart of, and power nearly every feature in Box including Box Intelligence, Preview, Watermarking, Realtime collaboration, Search, Automation, Workflows and more. As a Senior Staff Architect, you will have the opportunity of defining the next generation of architecture for this critical part of Box's infrastructure.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Own and lead the conversion domain including the backend infrastructure as well as the conversions that are built on top of it
  • Use your experience to contribute to and inform company objectives across team and function in creative, effective and diplomatic ways
  • Be hands-on working on code both in terms of prototyping as well as contributing production changes
  • Work closely with the engineering team and leadership to develop strategies for evolving the platform
  • Collaborate with Product Management to help refine requirements and break down complex projects into meaningful, deliverable units
  • Use a data driven approach to devise strategies for processing customer content while balancing requirements from a efficiency, quality and security perspective
  • Represent the Conversion team in the EAC as well as other architecture-oriented discussions


WHO YOU ARE

Required skills: Education requirements, years of experience (in necessary field if applicable + disciplinary/major)
  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • 12+ years of Software Development experience in distributed systems
  • 3+ years of experience in an Software Architecture oriented role
  • You are excited about solving complex technical problems using data-driven solutions.
  • You act like an owner and strive to do work you're proud of, both technically and in your team interactions.

Preferred skills:
  • Advanced media conversions, e.g. Video
  • Extracting structured data from unstructured files (e.g. PDF)
  • Processing data for use in AI/ML applications
