Investment Oversight Group
The Investment Oversight ('IO') Group is the focal point in the EMEA region for oversight, governance and supervision of investment management products, their performance and the platform on which they are managed. We champion BlackRock's client fiduciary principle. We oversee the implementation of product policy and strategy, supervise the investment platform on which products are managed and report to the Boards on ongoing performance, our governance framework and developments. We ensure the delivery, maintenance and development of appropriately constituted and managed products, subject to appropriate rigor, insight and oversight and meeting with the governance expectations of the Management Company boards and regional Regulators.
In the Netherlands, Investment Oversight is responsible for overseeing BlackRock Netherlands (BNBV) investment mandates, which has a pan-European scope as our designated EU-hub for MiFID services, representing over USD 200bn AUM in investment/segregated mandates.
Job Description
The position will be based in Amsterdam, with core responsibilities including
- Leading oversight of the scope of product, platform and performance oversight relating to BNBV's client mandates, including
- Understanding of investment objectives, portfolio management, performance and development,
- Delivery of key outcomes such as regulatory product governance requirements, sustainability, AUM, liquidity/flows & risks insight
- Ensuring sufficient monitoring of the development of client portfolios and appropriate escalation
- Maintenance and development of an effective set of KPIs/KRIs to inform the supervision of the model
- Participation as a key stakeholder in regional oversight initiatives as part of the EMEA Investment Oversight team and engagement with portfolio managers and strategists, including continuous oversight process optimisation, tools and process development such as for the conduct of quantitative and qualitative screens, composition of sustainability and performance assessments, escalation management and transparent governance ratings (KRI/KPI)
- Governance & reporting - regular analysis, reporting and escalation within Investment Oversight, including presentation to BNBV management, Committees and Boards, as well as assisting with regulatory initiatives and reporting (to the AFM and other regulators)
- Market & regulatory expertise - identify trends and risks related to new regulation, mandates and material changes, and propose and seek buy-in for improvements to business processes with respect to governance and regulatory priorities;
- Documentation - maintain and develop policies and procedures required for appropriate governance and oversight at BNBV, in particular consideration of sustainability preferences, product suitability, client fiduciary initiatives and participating with Investment Oversight's supervision of delegates Platform model.
This position will include policymaking and the associated responsibilities expected to contribute to the conduct of effectrive oversight and independent challenge of investment management as delegated by BNBV
Within the region, the successful candidate will work closely within Investment Oversight and other colleagues across functions in their coverage of related products and governance process in other jurisdictions.
Experience
- Experience working within an asset management firm
- Knowledge of and interest in markets, investment strategies, performance analysis, risk, value-for-money concepts, sustainability and supervision as a client fiduciary
- In-depth knowledge of MIFID-II, UCITS & AIFMD product governance & related regulatory requirements such as sustainability, value, outsourcing oversight, governance frameworks and familiarity with key EU and UK regulatory developments
- Experience utilising both Microsoft tools such as excel, Smartsheet and PowerBI; capabilities in scripting (such as Python) a plus
- Strong communication and presentation skills, both in preparation of materials and articulating their contents
- Fluent English language is required, other European languages an advantage
- Strong collaboration, prioritization and time management skills
- Self-starter with talent for working independently
- A pro-active collaborator across locations, for example supporting peer departments such as Product Development or Legal & Compliance in the navigation of jurisdictional matters and processes
- Ability to manage multiple requirements and deliver effective outcomes efficiently
