Team Overview

The Fee Oversight Team within Global Alternatives Operations is passionate about working with the relevant partner groups across the firm ranging from long-term strategic and tactical solutions to the complex issues presented by managing and operating alternative products. The team's engagements are high profile initiatives which require team members to have senior level exposure and play an active role in crafting the future state operating model of Global Alternatives Operations. The team has a special focus on management and performance fee calculations across BlackRock Private Markets that are the most critical components to BlackRock's revenue.

Role Responsibilities

We are looking for a candidate to work as part of a distributed team that will be able to make an immediate contribution to various projects with a specific focus on management and performance fees and complex waterfalls. This includes effectively understanding the business and specific issues that need to be addressed, developing a strategy, tracking key achievements, using firm resources and skills to execute on plans, and efficiently deploying the solution across the Global Alternatives Operations team. Specific responsibilities include:

Fee Expertise

  • Read and interpret fund legal documents and side fee agreements to ensure timely and accurate fee calculations
  • Review waterfall models which include preferred return, capital recycling, carried interest and claw back calculations
  • Collaborate with team members and third-party administrators to build management and incentive fee calculations including technology implementation
  • Participate in new business discussions around fee terms with internal partner groups and clients
  • Engage team members in career development, team objectives and training to promote growth and enhance skills

Project Management and Oversight

  • Lead the continuous assessment and implementation of the oversight model to ensure fee calculations follow the governing legal documents
  • Ensure that the team operates within a best-in-class control environment, including using analytics and available technology to drive scale
  • Ensure new funds are properly onboarded with external service providers with strong controls around fee calculations
  • Ensure strict adherence with product policies and guidelines to ensure all legal, compliance, and audit standards are met
  • Effectively communicate complex concepts and procedures to all levels throughout the firm including escalation of operating risks

Technology and Future State

  • Drive the technology requirements for new and existing fee calculations and controls, including appropriate test planning and rollout
  • Build and maintain a strong knowledge of Aladdin infrastructure and the future roadmap

Experience

  • 10-15 years of work experience in financial services, with 5+ years alternative investments preferred
  • Prior experience in a similar fee/performance leadership role preferred
  • Strong understanding of multitude of fee terms and models for open and closed-ended funds and related calculation platforms
  • Complex modeling ability with experience in incentive fees, carried interest and management fee calculations
  • Capability to read and understand complex partnership agreements and offering materials
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work independently
  • Strong people management skills including ability to drive timely execution and accountability through the team
  • Excellent communication, presentation skills, and comfort in senior management communication
  • Creativity with an analytical mind and openness to using technology to solve problems
  • Entrepreneurial spirit that is willing to take on additional responsibility quickly

Preferred Qualifications

  • Management reporting and/or investment partnership accounting experience
  • Proficiency reading and interpreting various accounting reports and financial statements
  • Vice President role, Director role may be available commensurate with experience

For Wilmington, DE Only the salary range for this position is USD$100,000.00 - USD$143,000.00 . Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
