About this Role

The EMEA Fund Tax Team ensures tax compliance and provides tax advice for BlackRock's public fund products in the EMEA region. They lead all tax aspects of multiple fund platforms, serve as the internal tax advisor and assess the tax position of BlackRock's funds, especially regarding cross-border distribution. Tax compliance is crucial in this role to ensure that all fund activities adhere to relevant tax laws and regulations, minimizing risks and avoiding potential penalties. This role involves frequent collaboration with internal team members, partners, custodians and fund administrators.

We are looking for a motivated Associate with a strong background in financial services, tax operations or fund administration. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of operational processes, with a consistent record to document and improve these processes. The candidate must have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, strong communication and interpersonal abilities. Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy are crucial for success!

Primary Responsibilities

As part of their role within the team, they will primarily be responsible for collaborating effectively with teams within BlackRock and external partners, including sales, client services, legal counsel and auditors, to drive various projects to successful completion. They will lead and handle ad-hoc projects by setting goals, defining results and working closely with team members to achieve outstanding outcomes. Additionally, they will supervise all aspects of and ensure the accurate and timely filing of tax returns for public funds, maintaining compliance with relevant regulations. This will include:

  • Coordination and evaluation of the performance of external tax service providers, using established metrics to ensure high-quality service and recommending changes. Efficient handling of related contract and billing processes
  • Design and implementation of robust controls and processes, to create effective governance frameworks, particularly around withholding taxes
  • Build processes for the management and coordination of investor tax reporting obligations across multiple EMEA jurisdictions with precision
  • Translate sophisticated business requirements into clear specifications, guiding solution design and driving technology development
  • Coordinate the processes involved in public fund launches, closures and restructuring events, ensuring smooth transitions
  • Review and streamline investor documentation for various fund ranges and facilitate tax reclaim applications seamlessly

Skills

  • Experience in implementing technology solutions
  • Solid understanding of Alteryx and Power BI or similar tools to create efficiencies
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with withholding tax and custodian-based tax processes is advantageous
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in English

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration or a related field
  • 2-3 years of postgraduate profession experience
  • Strong understanding of tax compliance and operational processes
  • Experience with process documentation and improvement
  • Proficiency in using dashboards and data management tools
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
